I don't see too many riders sporting ink like that. I was thinking about getting part of a crank inked on the inner part of my right leg, just for fun, but I've seen several do that, so I thought better of it.

New personal distance record for a day is now 474 miles. Going to be awhile before I top that I think.

My bike has been screaming at me to ride it. It has just been really difficult lately. I do need to go out and do a quick 20 at least once a week.
On a side note, I have been walking more. It isn't nearly as fun though....

I've been riding on the trainer 2-3 times a week, 30 minutes or so at a time. Just enough to hold off the boredom and crazies from not getting enough exercise. School is busy. This is sustainable for now.
But the weather looks great this weekend, I'm looking to go for a ride outside. 50's at the end of January??? what???? |

Pro cyclists were my Gods for many years but the last nail in the coffin of credibility was hammered in place by Lance.
So many, fair or unfair; I can't look at a winner or a breakout and not think juiced.

I have a hard time believing that they're not all juiced.
Much like I have a hard time believing that all auto manufacturers aren't cheating on emissions testing, regardless of if they're actually playing dirty or not. See what I did there? |

they're all juicing in one way or another. if its not unhealthy like how sterroids are unhealthy, i dont really see the problem with it though... EPO for example... it controls how quickly you produce red blood cells... your body produces EPO, and if you do high altitude/hypoxia training, you produce more EPO... up to 1000x more. but you can't inject EPO... which would be a similar gain... i donno, i guess i get that you want people to do it naturally... but if its not unhealthy... i mean... come on, i wanna see some crazy **** on TV. and without things like EPO injections, i aint gonna see crazy **** on tv.

EPO is a growth factor that stimulates the production of red blood cells, mainly used to treat anemia resulting from kidney failure or cancer treatment as an alternative to blood transfusions.
EPO usage in sports was originated back in the 60's.. Health consequences including death in sleep... athletes participated in swimming, water polo, rowing, weight lifting, etc.. many have died in their sleep.. same goes for horse racing or dog racing.. Success in sports may be the only way out of poverty (or illiteracy) in many parts of the world..
If not recruited for natural born talent to compete at the highest level in the world when the playing field is leveled by PED in addition to the level of natural talent, training and dedication; but just imagine that you have to spend 4-6 hours pedaling just to participate in a top level pro race... then to be competitive in a race.. I'm exhausted just thinking about it now. Personally, anyone who is wiling to spend 8-10 hours a day on a bicycle saddle day after day for training seems to deserve much more respect than some other sport than require sitting on a bench for most of the game. |

^^^^^ they need to redefine "running a marathon" if they're putting it ahead of the TdF.
Anyone can FINISH a marathon with some basic training. Not everyone can go sub 3:00:00, and definitely not everyone can actually COMPETE in a marathon. Large differences. Just finishing a TdF without getting bumped because of your distance behind is a feat. |

Just getting enough fuel in your body to push 150 miles a day for 3 weeks including over the Alps and Pyrenees, sounds impossible to me.

how many people live and even train at high altitude? (answer: lots) hypoxia training puts the user at 80% SPo2 for very short periods. you see less oxygen 100% of the time living in the alps. in fact, La Rinconada is near 14000ft, and has a pressure of roughly half that at sea level. it is an active mining city; manual labor all day. and yet there's no reports of elevated stroke levels. in fact everything i can find says you're LESS likely to suffer a stroke at high altitudes. especially if you are acclimated to low altitudes. (although tbh most of the miners of La Rinconada die of mercury poisoning from the mine before they would probably succumb to a stroke)

for a long time, until the 80s i think, they awarded the black jersey in TDF. it was the slowest rider to complete without being bumped. for a long time it was actually an honor to be awarded. one of the GCN hosts (you know- the one that always falls) was awarded it after coming in last after a crash.

They don't do a black jersey, but you will see the "lantern rouge" where the last rider of the day gets a red number for the next day. The team that's in the lead gets yellow numbers, the last guy to make it without being eliminated gets the red one, and number 13 will be upside down on his jersey a good portion of the time.
