I lucked out. SocalTrackDays were short a couple of corner workers so I'm able to fill in. Work half day, ride the other half. Oh yeah, there was a Panigale on at the track. Pretty nice!

It was a rare fluke; the regular crew had last minute cancels. They already have a long list of people and I doubt I get to corner work again for this year

Getting ready! Rearsets on, and this weekend is bodywork time. The rearsets were kinda complicated for my mediocre mind and I ended up having to get a longer brakeline to make them work. OH wellz they are on now till I break them........again.

Part ordering is beginning... I tore the bike apart over the weekend and pulled the emissions crap (turns out I have a 49 state bike!), cut off the kickstand, and other odds and ends.
I paid the guy $200 to do the safety wiring for me since I'm short on time and figured that would save me a weekend of work since I don't have a drill press. He did a TERRIBLE job, I wish I'd looked a lot closer when I was picking the bike up. Didn't touch a single hose clamp, didn't do 4 banjo bolts etc. I'd say he did about half of the needed work. Hey kit, you have a master cylinder from another bike right? I'm curious how it works- hydraulic theory says that taking a master from a 2 caliper bike and putting it on a 1 caliper bike should require twice the lever force on the master.. but there could be other stuff I'm ignoring. |

I'm pretty sure the one I have on there is Shane's Stock SV MC.
The change with that is not necessarily the calper/disc end. With all things there is a proportional equation with the MC bore/pivot and the number of pots in the calper and discs. The larger bore makes it harder that you need more force applied on the lever to have the same amount of pressure applied to the disc, but it reduces the slack. However, the one I have on it is not overkill that my weak little hands can't brake. It gives the brake a more wooden feel and that is just my preference. |

That wooden feel is a bad thing, Kit. Might be the reason why you highsided last month--couldn't feel the force/pressure of the brakes. Sorry...typing/thinking fast.

You're probably right. I only changed it because I broke my stock one. Never got around to buying a new one.

On our bikes, you have to remember...bigger isn't always better. Another example would be wider tires--not a good thing.

Hey it's Shane. The master on the bike now is a 5/8 14mm bore. The brakes are not wooden. The front brake works great. I've ridden her bike with the SV master. I even recently rode the bike at apex kart track for fun. Kit admits she didn't know how to describe the brake hitting hard. There is progression to the master. We didn't break her stock master either. I gave her my SV master when I swapped out to a radial on the SV. The second gen SV master works very well and is $30 all day on eBay. The stock SV calipers are tiny dual pots on SINGLE sided calipers. The inside of the caliper grabbing the back side of the rotor is a solid aluminum plate |

Sorry John, trash talk away. I wanted to jump on because I feel the master is a big upgrade and don't want to steer racers away from a low cost MC over a misunderstanding.
Take kit's bike out on the Friday before round #3. Try the master for yourself. I had edited that post. It's a 5/8 14mm mc. If kit feels that the pull is too solid I will change it back but I used it at apex and the front brake worked so good I got the front tire to skip under braking from the tire not being warm enough yet. Good stuff. |
