Youtube has some vids of the new CBR with aftermarket exhausts. Sounds like you would expect a thumper to sound, which can be good or bad depending on what you like. I think its sounds pretty neat, but then again I also kinda like what the ninjette sounds like with an aftermarket exhaust.

I personally enjoy thumpers, they have a very unique sound and powerband. However I am still waiting for one of the big boys to step up and make another super single.
I am just personally not that impressed with Honda's offering, mostly because they had an excellent 250cc a while back with the VTR and even the CBR 250cc, this new bike doesn't seem that extraordinary considering their past accomplishments. That being said I am pleased that another company other than Kawi is looking at the 250cc sport segment, I just hope to see something even cooler down the line from the likes of Suzuki and Yamaha. It would be nice if Aprilia threw their towel into the ring too and added a 250cc powerplant to that RSV 125cc they are bringing.

That would be a sweet ride, KTM has also been teasing us with an RC4 single for several years now too.

Honda would not have been able to offer a 4 cyl. 250 at the price this one will sell at...especially with what the Yen is doing. But I agree, I would have loved to a see a new 250RR or similar!

I take back what I said earlier about Honda using the same style frame as the ninja 250. Apparently they are using a more sophisticated frame design that almost appears to be similair to a steel trellis.
Bike still looks butt ugly though, love to see it with race glass on and some more performance mods. It may have the potential but we will have to see how it does.

I read that they were going to make a 250cc version of the KTM as well. And an RC4 would be amazing. I remember seeing the teasers awhile back. The new CBR 250R will be a good thing for the US market, especially if it sells well. The more sales of small displacement machines, he more leverage there is to try and bring something to the market.
On a side note, the two tone wheels on the 125 Duke are freakin awesome, but I couldn't live with the orange. |

Honda should do a naked version of the 250. Might be a better seller in the long run.

Sat on the CBR250 at the bike show today. I think Kawasaki has a problem. It's a beautiful bike. The ergos are comparable to the Ninja 250. The paint is nice. And the price is nice too.
Most of the people that looked at it said the same thing: "This is perfect for a beginner's bike." I can't see too many seasoned riders buying it. But I think new riders, which is the target market for 250's in the states, will gravitate toward this one. I really want to ride it to see how it handle's compared to the Ninja 250. |

Without a doubt Honda has tremendous emotional brand awareness. How many people do you know who drive Honda cars/vans, have Honda generators, mowers, coffee makers...ok, not really coffee makers? This brand has awesome cross-over ability and I would say that you could ask any guy on the street and they would associate Honda with quality. Any new rider will have to consider this bike and might just find themselves walking into a Honda dealer first. It is interesting to see how often Honda refers to the new 250 with this "global - one world" rhetoric. They could be right on with that but I bet this bike gets some good ol' fashioned American sex'ed up glossy gotta have it advertising in the US market. if you have not been, here is the Honda site http://world.honda.com/CBR250R/ |

Does the Putt Putt Cup in WERA allow single 250 4 stroke superstock bikes to compete, because in the classifications they stipulate 250 4 stroke twins.
I want to see the race glass manufacturers start producing glass for some of the other 250's out there so we can get a little more competition on the grid, the CBR is probably the best chance for this to happen.

I think Mongo may make an exception in this case, depending on how they look in race trim (technically speaking, god knows it will take a lot to make that bulbous fairing look good). How often does pestering him work?

I know, that is weird. I think our bikes top off at 24 to 25 HP stock off a dyno. My bike was just over 24 HP stock on Area P's dyno.

I believe it is about 32-34 at the crank and what ^you said at the wheels. I have seen a lot of 250s at 25-26 stock at the wheels.

Some pretty good pricing going on for pre-orders. The Honda dealer in Hollister is offering them for $4550 out-the-door.
Link with details I've seen new Ninja 250's for that at close-outs, but it's few and far between.

Now that I think about it Honda sells a newer VTR elsewhere in the world. Kind of wishing that was here instead of the CBR250R.

According to Sean the WERA god, the cbr 250's will be allowed to race in E-superstock (rule changes coming, maybe not till next season but still good). If the other 2 manufacturers start making 250 sportbikes again we may have our own little mini race war going on.
Could you imagine if the big 4 started giving some little contingency money for that class?

The latest issue of Cycle World did an evaluation of the new Honda. They did not go overboard in their praise--saying that there will be a shootout with the Ninja.

Yeah, I just read that article also and while they didn't go overboard it's clear the reviewer really liked the bike. What stood out in the review was the low-rpm torque, less tip-in tendancies, a decent suspention and the fact that it accomodated a 6'4" rider. They also made a point to mention that the typical Honda fit & finish was far above what the price point would indicate and the entire package had a "high quality feel". Overall a damn good review right outta the gate.
