I biked 75.8 miles yesterday. Cracked hardcore somewhere between mile 60 and 65 when I ran out of food.
I managed to make it home on my own power! Exhausted and in a serious haze. I ate a PB+J sandwhich and a glass of chocolate milk right when I got home and I felt instantly better. I then proceeded to eat everything Today, my legs feel great, my knee is a bit sore though. I'll take a well deserved off day I think. Got a cool picture while I was out. This is a covered bridge I always end up passing because it's on one of my favorite routes. I've just never gotten around to snapping a picture. So I finally did. |

"Because no one else will let me torture them." My company just sent out an email with our new fitness benefits. I might take advantage and join the local gym as well, if only for access to the pool. I don't really need it for anything else, although I've maxed out the weight limit on some of my exercises on my home gym (I've just been upping the reps). I really only like using the gym in the winter when it's too cold to bike consistently. |

More biking! This week I moved into school, been riding with my tri club buddies again. It feels good not to be riding solo. 106 miles this week. I'm already missing hills and hating the wind though. it's going to be a long year for biking.
135 miles last week, along with 15 miles running. I got back into running and it felt great! I think a break from running was just what I needed to not be burnt out on it. 2 weeks ago was terrible for me. Track days, camping, generally busy. Only biked like 17 miles. But that's okay. An off week is needed sometimes so I don't waste away of excessive calorie burn. as always, here's my strava page so you can see what I'm up to on my biking and running adventures! I just picked up a fluid stationary trainer, a Vorttice Aero helmet and Profile Design T4+ aero bars.
Getting prepped to better my time on a local 10 mile TT race. Last time I did it in 26 minutes 22 seconds...I'm hoping to improve by 10-30 seconds. |

Not sure how I feel about aero bars on a non-TT bike. On one hand I disapprove because you need to change your fit and it's not really necessary when you have drops and elbows. On the other hand, if you like it, go for it.
Fluid trainers are where it's at! I have one in my apartment. Super quiet. I can spin in the middle of the night and not bother my room mate or neighbors. |

Tons of enduro riders use them. Heck, you watch those Tour the Divide racers ride, they put aero bars on their MTB's.

Right. But look at their positioning. Those 'aero' bars give them about the same torso angle as a standard endurance geometry road bike. Aero bars on a race geometry road bike get you nearly flat to the oncoming wind. They serve a purpose but require a totally different bike fit.
The aero bars in the video are more important for a different hand/arm position. The only thing that sucks about MTB's with flat/riser bars instead of roadie curves drop bars is arm and wrist fatigue from very few hand positions. |

Well, unlike some people I have a tiny budget to work with. So being unable to buy a dedicated TT bike I find the benefit in making myself the most aero I can with what I have. Yeah there is a little bit of a weight gain, but with the flat terrain I deal with weight doesn't really matter.

Have you moved anything else on the bike to compensate? A TT bike has a totally different geometry than a road bike. The aero bars put your chest forward, rotate your hips, and make your sit bones rotate also. This stretches out your hamstrings. Typical adjustment is to either move the seat forward on the rails or swap to a post without any set-back and adjust the angle of the seat accordingly. But then that ruins the bike fit for using your hoods or drops.
TT bikes also tend to have really short top tubes for their size. |

I get around the hand positions part by having bar ends. Very few MTB riders use them anymore, but I find them quite a necessity.

Yeah I've marked out where I should adjust the bike for a TT position or normal riding. In fact I think my seat need to move about another 1cm further forward. Seems like I'm still having to reach out too much. I also picked up some Lizard Skins bar tape for the aero bars too.

Don't move the seat for reach. Change the stem length for reach.
Adjust the seat position/angle to get your knee in the right position relative to the pedal axle and your hips rotated the correct amount. There's a ton of info out there on different methods for bike fitting for various purposes. |

13.3 miles Chris? PSYCHO! lol hahahahahaha I just got an agility ladder. I'm actually looking forward to it. Cycling is great and I absolutely love it, but it lacks in some departments. So I will be working on agility ladder drills to help work the core, hips, etc; things the bike won't get. I even got new shoes for it. I am not going 100% for two reasons: 1. Concentrating on learning new drills 2. Breaking in the new shoes My cleats would work nicely, but I don't get a chance to play soccer much anymore, so I will be doing my work on pavement (at least for now). I got some great fitting shoes to train in. My issue is I typically like some room in my shoes. The new pair fit like my cleats. I can do some quick drills on the way to the tennis courts (where I will practice) to warm me up. I may switch it up between pavement and field in the future.

Just finished 13k Tough Guy obstacle course (The original Tough Mudder, built on a set course & has been upgraded every year since 1987) 50ft high wood & net obstacles, 20,000 V electric fence obstacles, ropework over water teeming with eels & a **** load of nettles.
So what did we learn: 20kV to the back of the head knocks you right the **** out, anywhere else it feels like you've been shot, but a headshot leaves you flat on the ground and you don't feel a thing... A spamming right calf doesn't make for a good attempt at crossing 50ft of 12ft deep water, attempting a couple of re-gains & falling in gets a rescue swimmer dispatched very very quickly. roaring "come on you ****in pussies, don't let me be the only one to give this a ****in go" after dragging myself up 50ft through 20kV cattle tape fences & water leaves the army medics at the top wetting themselves laughing. Dragging, lifting, pushing & pulling a 22year old little blonde PT with a filthy mind through the lot... priceless |
