In fact, some people are getting coronavirus, confining themselves to their homes, and letting it pass without telling anyone, just to avoid the stigma of it affecting their families. Case in point: a guy in a nearby town had his mom get it. Hadn't been in the same room with his mom in 6 months. Yet when he told his employer they told him to stay home. Think about it. If you get what might be coronavirus and your symptoms aren't bad, there might be a benefit to just self isolate and not tell anyone about it just to protect your family and friends from BS. Total number of infected is likely 10x what is reported, and while there is no error in the number of reported deaths, the calculated mortality rate is based on the number of infected, which is held back by the number of tests given. The real mortality rate is likely far less than 1%. I would bet it's more along the lines of .5 to .3%, just to swag a number.

Washington today:
3700 cases (up 493 since yesterday) 175 deaths (up 28 since yesterday) 19 recoveries (to date) Ohio today: 1137 cases (up 270 since yesterday) 19 deaths (up 4 since yesterday) 0 recoveries (to date) U of W suggests Washington's death-per-day peak right around 4/21 (at appx. 27 deaths per day) IF social distancing is maintained through early June. June? Holy crap! That's a long time for 30% unemployment! U of W predicts Ohio's peak to occur sometime between 4/7 and 4/21. |

Ohio is still eating out. We went from less than 4k on unemployment to over 180k in a week. They made loop holes to work and file to get more money. They also cut daycares to 6 kids per room and must have pandemic license. So, now healthcare workers are unable to work due to lack of childcare (not enough for all of them) Oh well, nothing I can do. I plan to do what I must and try to not lose my house or mind.

It seems crime has fallen here. On the local Nextdoor app, I've seen one truck theft (recovered) and one camping trailer theft (still missing) over the last couple weeks.
Home burglars are screwed, because most people are at home. I haven't talked with any drug dealers lately, because the taverns are closed. |

There's a good chance that the "recovery" stat is time-based. I.E., there might be some length of time where a confirmed case has to be out of the hospital without returning before they can be considered "recovered". This means there's probably some lag on that number. Give it time. (someone correct me if I'm wrong on those last 4 sentences)
My other thought; The two options are either: 1) you die of it 2) you survive ("recover") ...and those are mutually exclusive, right? As far as I'm aware, mutually exclusive outcomes are complimentary. So it doesn't matter if you actually track the "recoveries", if track the deaths and subtract them from the total number of confirmed cases and you have the recoveries. That's a fairly simple process after all this is said and done that doesn't require manpower for following up with every patient. |

I like to watch NASCAR racing. Due to the virus, like other sports, the season has been canceled. I turn the tv on and what do I see? Simulated NASCAR racing on a platform called Iracing. The drivers are safely at home in their man caves racing on simulators with 40 other drivers. Very interesting.

Seems totally reliable

Louisiana residents have been told by Texas that if we cross the border we will be ordered to self quarantine for 14 days.
Since the Louisiana governor has asked everyone to stay at home unless you have an essential job or have to go out for groceries I really can’t blame the Texas governor for trying to keep his residents safe. |

The more and more i read about symptoms, and we are finding out for certain that some places had the virus weeks before the state had a single confirmed case i am leaning more and more towards that my family could have had it in Early March. Far too many "coincidences" to ignore.
Not sure if any of us would still test positive or not? Or if they would test any of us?

We are suspicious that we crossed paths with it earlier as well, with the fever/coughing/shortness of breath etc., but it was diagnosed as a sinus infection and it did go away over time. Genetic testing shows that it was in our county by early January, and several in the household were sick in early February. But I imagine there's millions of people thinking the same thing right now. Some of them may be right - but it's also helpful to remember that millions upon millions of us do get sick at times, including many of the symptoms of a minor COVID-19 case. If we're better now, it doesn't matter terribly, other than a higher likelihood that for us personally, we're at lower risk of catching this same thing as it circles around this area over and over again. I don't think there will be widespread/universal testing either soon, or maybe even ever, to try and find out if everybody had it at one point. I do think there will be population studies to get more data and then make inferences from there; that's pretty much one of the reasons public health exists for.

So, they are now (finally) mandating the hospitals to use labs that can/will process results within a day or 2. The numbers will be closer to real time new cases instead of lagging test and quick test adding to daily numbers.

Here in Wisconsin, all the state parks are open and free too. Services are shut down but hiking trails are open for people to get outside and enjoy nature. And it's generally spacious enough to practice good social distancing.

In Wisconsin it's just essential businesses too. But the state parks remain open. I can definitely understand anything spacious and outdoors still being open. Though I would expect them to not allow golf carts and make people walk so they stayed apart.
Most of our stores have elderly hour for 1 hour before the general public is allowed in. I think that's pretty cool, though from what I hear it's super crowded with old folks.
