I'll be doing my MPG math tomorrow when I get gas; hoping it will show a slight increase as well.

Nope, carbs are totally worthless, I'll take them off your hands though

You could probably sell them for $100-$200, or you could give them to me

Lol. For the right price you can have them!

Do you, or anyone local to us, have the experience in hooking up the decel cable with the EFI kit?

For the right price? Well I have a case of beer and the capability to help you with your bike

No clue on the decel cable, there is 2 generations of the throttle body, I never installed a kit so I don't really know it well. I think with the previous generation though you needed a longer decel cable? Or I think the way the bracket is its not possible to put both cables in so you kinda have to bend on or do something weird. Eh, if you want to bring it over we can screw around with it

The latest generation of the throttle body has a place for the decel cable.

Just run it through the tunnel under the gas tank with the throttle cable. It should hook up to the butterflies fine, just like the throttle cable? Mine worked out just fine.

I'm not selling my carbs. I want them just in case anything happens.

I really need some help asap!

How do I do a valve adjustment with this EFI kit installed if I don't have a petcock to turn the fuel flow off? Do I have to drain the tank?

I am sure. there is no reserve, i just use my tank all the way through. There's at least no switch to disable fuel flow...

Hmm odd. With CA tanks there's no need to remove the petcock. How is the return fuel line routed to the tank?

Anyway, yea, you'll need to drain the tank or plug where it flows gas from

If I do have one, it would look exactly like the stock one I'm thinking of right? I think it's just directly connected fuel line. Jiggles, do you know how to adjust valves by any chance?

Maybe we could meet up?

DO yourself a favor and get some tusk quick disconnects (x2) and install them before filling back up. They will make your life a whole lot easier when servicing a bike with the ecotrons kit. You need two of them - one for each fuel line connecting to the tank.

Pregen valves

Pregens are very easy to adjust the valves - unlike a newgen.

Here is a good source of information on the subject.

EDIT:
WARNING: If you overtorque your valve adjustment nuts, you will destroy your engine so be careful with these nuts.

I've never checked valves or done any engine work but I do want to learn. I am willing to help and learn along the way if you want

O.o? What makes a newgen more difficult?
The newgen has a totally different top end and is WAY more difficult to work on. With the pregen, once you get to valve cover off, you turn a few screws and you're done.

It might not be a CA model. If it is, there will be 3 outlets at the rear for the tank. The 49 state model only has one.

I see where the fuel return and fuel feed lines go to replace the normal petcock. I guess there really isn't a way to do a valve adjustment if you follow the insturctions for the ecotrons installation?

The kit is lacking a way to shut off fuel from the tank. Matt always suggested to drain the tank whenever you needed to remove it, not really a good option in my opinion. I added the tusk quick disconnects to accomplish that.

@Jiggles, Yes the California tank as a return line, but the stock petcock uses vacuum to open. With, EFI you need it to be open at all times. Pregen's don't have a setting for through flow like the newgens, so the fuel tap that is included in the ecotrons kit was used and that has no way of shutting off fuel flow.

Which piece of the kit needs to be replaced to have functionality to turn the fuel flow off? Where should that be installed, and where can I buy one?

The two hoses that connect to the tank must be cut and fitted with Tusk disconnects. You have to buy them separately at the link above. The ecotrons instructions do not include this part so the PO didn't do that.

Does your fuel tap have two copper lines coming out of it with one bent?
Or did they drill a hole in the tank and return fuel that way? Older ecotrons instructions had people drilling holes in the tank, but now he has the fuel tap which replaces the petcock.

Did the seller of the bike give you any of the stock parts?

If you have the stock petcock you could try to modify it to flow always (i.e. make it so the vacuum valve is always open.

I think you could do this by removing the spring of the vacuum diaphragm or maybe the o-ring seal again on the vacuum diaphragm (or both). But you would have to experiment to see what works.

They only come in one size, correct? I want to make sure I am getting the right size. Also, I'll only need 2 correct? 1 for the gas leaving the tank, and one for return?

This piece is what replaced the petcock.

Assuming my setup looks like this:

Where would I need to place the quick connect piece? In between the fuel pump and tank?

Here is the schematic for how it is supposed to be situated:

I guess after looking at this schematic, things are a bit clearer for me. Can someone highlight the spots for the disconnects for me with ms paint or something?

Also, where can I get a replacement fuel filter?

Yes, you'll have to drain the tank.

I installed mine the same way. I initially tried to use those quick-disconnect inline valves, but I must have gotten faulty ones or something, because mine were always leaking. I could not get them to seal! So I just gave up and figured it wouldn't be that hard to just drain the system when I need to do valve servicing; just pop off a fuel line and aim it into a 5 gallon gas can and let it sit till the tank is empty. I'll have to do that this spring when I do my next valve check. (I did one 3k ago when I had my head apart, but I got my rockers all switched up, so I'm doing an early check to make sure everything is still peachy)

Anyone have any other in-line disconnects that I could try? Or should I just try the same ones again? I'll have the whole thing apart this spring for my valve adjustment, it shouldn't be too much of a chore to install those while I'm in there.

I've attached that picture with red markings for where the in-line cut-off's should go. They are the red boxes.

Any in-line filter that is for use with a 1/4" line will work just fine. I broke my filter that came with my kit so I'm using a filter that I picked up at autozone. I've had no problems with it.

Thanks for the help! What filter did you replace it with?

jetsrus.com has some really nice sintered bronze filters that I will be using for all my fuel projects.

Since you have a Cali tank. I would recommend getting a stock pregen petcock (ebay) and modifying it by removing the spring and o-ring in the vacuum diaphragm. The vacuum diaphragm is available in the kawi petcock rebuild kit so not too many worries about screwing it up. (be sure not to loose the spring as that is not included in the kit)

This mod will allow you to have way to turn off the fuel flow while maintaining a route to return the bike to stock if you ever want to go that way.

I have the same experience with the quick releases mentioned above, they leak when seperated. I've found the mail end seals well but the female end doesn't. So if you do end up going that route put the male ends on the tank side. (better to have the bike pluming leaking than the tank)

Do you guys use 2" or 3"?

So when I'm going about adding these quick disconnects, what is the best order to do them in. I'm trying to spill the least amount of gas. I would assume doing the return first would be the cleanest?

Also, does anyone have any recommendations of fuel hose to use if for some reason I cut the current ones, but don't have the disconnects work? The stuff on the site with the fuel filters says "not for use with fuel injection"
