If we're doing skinny little bikes, I'm gonna say Sachs Madass 125. With some cheap suspension upgrades they are a hoot at the kart track. Kinda hard to find.

That's what I want for Christmas - a $6,000.00 motor scooter! A great pit bike for the Porsche 917.

I'm looking for something like this to go with my Derbi GPR -
Aprilia RS 50. There are a ton of hop-ups available for these - big bore, stroker cranks, carbs, pipes. These guys from the SF area are way into it - http://www.bayareatwostroke.com/forum/index.php https://www.gprcamp.com/foro/ |

There is a rumor floating around that about 2030 all cars and bikes will be electric. I'm wondering where all this electricity is going to be coming from? I think I'll wait until 2031 and get the first nuclear motorcycle. It should be fast and able to go for the rest of my lifetime on a single charge. They are saying it will be able to use roads, go under water, in the air (up to 3.7 miles high), be super quite, and have a half life warranty.

So without actually seeing the text of the law I'm not 100% sure, but it seems to me like the goal is to end internal combustion engines by 2040. Which is probably doable. But I'm just wondering how they are going to generate and distribute all the electric power. |

That's a pretty big undertaking in the next 12 years. The environmental impact statements would take that long to write. and they would have to increase the distribution network. |

The government can "want" electric vehicles and make laws saying car makers must change, but they can't increase availability of cobalt and lithium.
All they are doing is making laws now that will be removed later when reality sets in. There's a reason why a good electric bike costs double what the gas equivalent costs. There have been no breakthroughs in battery technology, after 20 years of trying. We are still tied to the same technology created in the 70's. Some of these battery companies are saying "we're close to a breakthrough" which is marketing speak for "we are running out of money, please give us more."

While it looks cool, a 690 based KTM will never make a good adventure tourer. The motors are too high strung, and on average need a full top end rebuild after about 25K miles. Less if ridden hard. That won't go over well with the ADV crowd.
To make that bike viable for distances, they would have to seriously detune it. A move like that doesn't seem to be KTM's style. The Africa Twin is a bike more suitable to high miles. I wouldn't mind having one. In fact, I got my eye on craigslist for a used one.

BTW, the new 790 is a twin, not a thumper like 690... the one pictured is a Rallye bike.. no where near a ADV Tourer. |

Well it says adventure on the side. Maybe I need to look that one up. I thought it might be a stroked 690. I had a 690. Fire breathing monster that needed maintenance all the time. That said, I still loved it for what it was.

The only place in Northern New Jersey you can use that bike is on route 78 or 80.

Did you guys see the article in the new Cycle World about the now-legal older 2 strokes? There's a new law that allows non-us bikes over 25 years old to be brought in from other countries and registered in the US under a collector clause. There had a comparison of 1991 2 stroke v twins. It was drool worthy. There's a company that brings them in and does all the registration footwork and keep a supply of spare parts, Moto2 Imports.
