Got her very very muddy Ksenia is a very dirty girl... I said that out loud right before I left the gas station on the way home, and I think the one guy heard me because he gave me a really weird look.
I said something along the lines of "You are a dirty dirty girl... god damn you're a dirty girl" and then I realized I didn't have my helmet on yet and the guy at the pump was looking at me really weird. Luckily @allanoue had just left, so I wasn't doubly embarrassed!

I started it up for the first time in a month. I shifted through all the gears on the center stand.
Then I dreamed of warmer weather and opportunities to ride again.... |

It's 6 AM here in GA. I was already riding at midnight, sans front fairing, then i got home at 0100 and started sanding AGAIN where I've plugged up some holes with ABS cement (front reflectors gone, fixing cracks from PO drop, etc.)
later today? more sanding, more riding, and HOPEFULLY creating the new windscreen out of aluminum if i get real industrious. *EDIT* Aluminum windscreen = bad idea. picture riding with a giant razor blade in front of you. would look really cool til meeting with another car or Bambi or something. Lexan it is....

Yeah I would definitely like it black. I wonder where / how much it would be for powder coating it. A nice wrinkle black would be so nice.
maybe black header wrap?

Try getting that high temp spray paint used in engine bays or something... Matte black should look good as well, but not too sure about that...

You could try high temp painting it your self but the results would be satisfactory at best I think. I'm going to have my exhuast ceramic coated black when I get to that point of my project bike ill let you know when I find a place that does it. I'm also going to pull apart my can and have the can and end cap anodized black but I need to research on the effect heat has on anodizing.

Yeah let me know what you find in the area. Header wrap is non removable once applied, correct?

You can remove the cloth wrap but if I remember it does leave some fibers stuck to the header and causes a bit of discoloration, but some scotch bright should be able to remove what's left over. When we pulled the stuff off the race bikes it was always to put new stuff right back on wether after crash or what not.

Cool. I guess I can try that for the meantime. Think i should peel off the red "F1R" first? It's pretty baked on.

I've been debating having my headers Ceramic coated because I don't want my O2 bungs/plugs to rust. At the very least I'll use one of those uber high temp stove paints that has the ceramic stuff in it, but if I can find someplace that does high temp coating for cheap I'll do that.

Okay good. I've taken wheels off before, but usually I just take the wheels and new tires to the shop.
Bigger bikes usually have that weird massive hex key tool for the axles right? Thank god for nuts and cotter pins on the ninjette |

I don't buy tools at HF unless it's something that I'll either use once, or something that's just hella cheaper and I just want it for short term to carry me over until I get the real thing.

The open-ended wrenches aren't for the rear axle nut. There is a large flat piece with a properly-sized hexagonal cutout with no open end. There is also a piece of pipe with flattened edges that it slots into for extra leverage. You can slot the suspension adjuster tool in the other end for even more leverage. Of course, you still need a large socket if you plan to adjust to proper torque specs when tightening. |
