What do you mean? Gear won't fix a broken wrist.
I just ordered my new stuff also. -Frame sliders -Headlight modulator -Oeange 5050 led waterproof strips for the sides integrated into the turn signals (Did this on a buddies bike and it came out sick) -New full face -New slip over pants with inserts and pads -New LONG leather gloves -Same jacket (Wasn't wearing it) (Haven't ordered riding boots yet but I will keep wearing my leather steel toes for now, they will at least offer some road rash protection) -Did a full tune up on the bike everything from fork oil to valve lash. -Dave

So, just to summarize... You bought a bike, rode 3,000 miles. Wrecked it. Then went out and bought a supersport? Did I miss something?

I was simply saying in your first post you explained to you mom you'd be ATGATT but when you crashed all you had on was a jacket and helmet. I must also ask, what is the point in throwing a helmet down at the ground just because you're mad?
Yep, but usually you want to go with an r6 after you crash. |

^ I agree, Massacre.
Unfortunately that statement is fairly accurate, I seem to be in the small percentage of gsxr riders that actually wear gear. Maybe I should sell my gear so I can buy some tight shirts and a mohawk for my helmet, at least I'll look like a badass should I ever be pavement surfing. |

2 dayMSF course
1,000 miles on a 125cc street legal dirt bike 4,000 miles on a 500cc GS500 GSXR600 This is a healthy progression IMO. Also, the gs500 crash wasn't my fault. I wasn't speeding, not paying attention, or goofing around. I could have been on a 250 or a liter bike... I was cut off, and the momentum of my body caused the broken bones, not the displacement of the engine. The statement of "This gear will prevent a broken wrist." Was never made...lol

Also, I got my gear today. The helmet is really bright, the pants have hard padding everywhere + slip over my clothes so I will be more inclined to wear them. Leather gloves are badass and come up half way up my forearm, and I am yet to order some riding boots.

"Last Saturday someone pulled out in front of me 4 blocks from my house when I was going about 40. Of course I had on all my gear, 'cause I'm not a squid. I had about 1/4 of a block to stop. He stopped in my northbound lane after seeing me. I braked hard and downshifted without locking up, did a quick head check to see if following traffic was doing anything stupid, swerved around the stopped SUV, and flipped him the bird on the way past for being an idiot." Now you have another bike. Hope you decide to take it to a large parking lot somewhere or to an advanced rider course and work skills before the next SUV shows up, 'cause it will. The larger displacement will just mean that any erratic/panic inputs you make will cause more mayhem. Good luck. |

Like others on here, I have to advocate gear. Injuries suck, and minimizing them is worth the hit to the bank account.

Well you either spend a few hundred dollars on some decent gear, or you end up paying a few grand plus insurance rates going up when you crash in flip flops and a tee shirt. Your call really. lol

Just as an update, I've been riding the GSXR for over a year now. Much happier with the new bike. I don't see how people feel comfortable with the 250s on the expressway now that I've moved on to a bike with more power.
Thanks Everyone -Dave

I'm comfortable with my 300 on the expressway but I do tend to be high in the rev range most of the time. I rarely end up in situations where I have to accelerate out of a situation and even in those situations I have enough power. More power for me would just mean me getting in more trouble with law enforcement officers than I already do.

speaking of highway riding, how does everyone deal with squared off tires?
mine have been getting a little squared off since I cut down on pleasure rides during the winter and put a good 2-3k miles of almost pure highway commuting on them. I've been doing imaginary slaloms to try to minimize it but the rear tire is still a bit squared off |

I've been riding street bikes since April 1992. Personally I prefer a small light bike like my current 250 over larger, heavier bikes, but hey, that's just my preference.

Spend as much time as possible riding in the twisties so they don't get squared off in the first place.

I've squared off multiple sets of DRIIs, tried rounding them off again by a few twisty trips through the mountains. But now I have embraced my squareness and my next set is going to be BT45s.

I'm thinking if you square it off just right, you'd could easily become a slow race champion. Just gotta sit there cuz your square wheels are holding you up without any effort

My first DRII rear tyre didn't get to 6K. It got staked! A big metal tube got lodged into it instantly deflating it and destroying the beautiful tyre! My replacement DRII has only been on for ~3k and is still looking good. I've had it repaired once already though as a nail got embedded in it; really glad that one didn't need replacing as well... for a moment I thought I was going to have to fit my old IRC back on |
