Mechanic telling my friend he bought the wrong sprockets

The reason I'm asking is because I'm the one who recommended these to him for his 2010 Ninja 250R. Now I feel bad.
You can look them up on Amazon.com. Rear sprocket is a JT Sprocket JTR210.43 43T Steel & the front sprocket is JT Sprockets JTF252.14 14T Steel.
The mechanic told my friend that his sprockets, which he order off amazon.com after I told him what sizes I'd go with, are for dirt bikes, so he ordered new sprockets through the dealership.
Can someone tell me if these sprockets are inaccurate? I don't remember which model number I bought of my own JT Sprockets, but I know they were 14T/43T from JT Sprockets.
Someone please chime in. This is the same mechanic who told me my 140/70-17 rear tire wouldn't fit my bike. I think he's incompetent.

For the 2010 (new-gen) bikes, the front and rear sprockets are as follows, per the JT Sprockets catalogue:

Rear: JTR486

Front: JTF1539

Add the sprocket teeth count after each model number for the full product name.

http://www.jtsprockets.com/catalogue/model/5185

JTR210 page: http://www.jtsprockets.com/catalogue/sprocket/JTR210

When buying parts, always do research at the actual manufacturers website and don't rely solely on the parts finder of a retailer for fitment.

Lesson learned. Thanks, @menikmati. I will probably buy my friend's sprockets for him. He went off my recommendation, though I didn't tell him the part #'s.

Dammit, I think I made the same mistake too with the front sprocket I bought. A lot of the reviewers said they had a Ninja 250 though?

This is the sprocket I bought: http://www.amazon.com/JT-Sprockets-J...pr_product_top

Will it work for a 2009 Ninja 250?

Yes. Been running that one since July with no problems.

I should've realized this before but the Ninja 250 FAQ says it's for the pregen Ninja 250.

Is it safe to use it with with the newgen and did yours fit without any modifications?

Can you simply measure and compare the dimensions before going by the word of the mechanic and buying more sprockets?

If the spline, width, off-center, etc. are like the original ones, I see no problem.

Did the mechanic mentioned what model/brand bike those were for?
Steel sprockets for sport, street and "for dirt bikes" are all manufactured alike, only change is in the dimensions.

No. Like I said, it's my friend's 250R. I wasn't there when the mechanic told him the sprockets are dirt bike ones and won't fit.

Anyway, thank you guys for the responses. Now I know better than to advise someone to buy something I don't know sh*t about.

I see.
Sorry that you got into that situation while your intentions were good.
The incorrect sprockets could be sold in e-bay to recover some of the money.
