Four years today, my spine...

So I figured I'd share this story of mine here.

I was a passenger in a car crash four years ago, and I ended up with a broken spine and punctures in my digestive system. This led to two surgeries: one to get my digestive system all patched up, another one to get a fusion and remove some shattered bone.

Needless to say, I was extremely lucky and still have use of my legs.

In physical therapy I met a few people that had been in severe motorcycle accidents: one amputated below the knee from a wheelie gone wrong, one with a reconstructed foot after being hit by a car, one with a broken wrist and femur, and another with a broken neck, wrist and ankle from a track spill...
But all of them loved riding, and almost every one would have ridden again given the chance.

Through this I learned that cars can be really dangerous too, and safe defensive driving/riding could have avoided nearly all the injuries I saw in PT. Remembering all of this regularly reminds me to ride safely and wear gear when I get on my bike!

Thumbs up

Great reminder!

Food for thought on that next ride.

I got a broken femur here, waiting to go physical therapy. Now I'm curious to meet all the other unfortunate souls in the same boat as me

Broke my neck when I was 10...... Was in the hosp for 6 months and a neckbrace for a year. Was right when my dad was about to die so couldn't even see him before he did because they didn't want the sight of my in a brace to upset him. Was a pretty rough time and I remember it like it was yesterday even though it was 24 years ago. I feel ya bro. Hey we're pretty close I'm in Newark, if you ever are down this way lemme know and we can go for a group ride.

Yeah, I don't think I'll be forgetting the crash (or rather the aftermath) anytime soon either... But hey we both made it out in one piece! I definitely appreciate a lot of things I used to take for granted.

I'm definitely down to meet up and ride! I'm in Doylestown, but I have a friend in Oxford that I visit once in a while, so I'm sure we'll be able to plan something. Maybe we can get more ninjette people to come as well!
