Slip On Exhaust

I have a question that may have been answered before, Is there a slip on exhaust that does not need to have the exhaust pipes changed AND I don't have to re-port the carbs?

And, how much are they? I am a cheap S.O.B!, so I really hate to pay a lot for a simple slip on!

"slip on" means you cut the original muffler off and slip the new can on the pipes (and tack them together), so you don't need to replace the pipes. You'd get new pipes only with a full system.
I have a slip on (Jardine I believe) and the previous owner didn't do anything to the carbs, but I think the fuel/air mix could be improved.

As far as I know slip-ons cost upwards of $250... not exactly cheap, but I think there are stock can mods you could do!

I stand corrected! The GP looks really cool in my opinion so that's good

Jussaying

I had it on there without a rejet. Sure, it may not have been performing at absolute 100%, but it was 90% all day long.

Maybe this confused him, you don't cut it off, you simply unscrew it and take it off

Oh. I didn't do it myself so I assumed that's what had been done. I have the original exhaust too and at a quick glance that's what it looked like. But what you said makes more sense now that I think about it!

Im not a total noob, I know you have to sometimes cut and or unscrew them, all I wanted to know is I don't have to replace the header to install a "slip on" pipe?

As far as price, yes Im a total Scrooge. But I know like anyone else, you get what you pay for.

See, I went to the local shop and he quoted me around $350 for the pipe and another $80 for the re-jet kit. It seemed a little pricey to me, so I thought I would ask all of you.

A slip-on replaces the stock muffler, it's a simple bolt-on and retains the original header.

A jet-kit requires removal of the fairings, gas tank, airbox (if you still have it), carbs (you can do some jetting with an offset screwdriver to avoid taking the carbs/gas tank off) and a bit of trial and error.
