Buying a 2009 250R; Paint+fender questions
Hey guys,
On Friday I will be purchasing the 2009 Ninja 250R posted below. It has 3900 miles, and everything is stock. It had been dropped once, and the only cosmetic damage is shown in the pictures below (only on one side). I am purchasing it for $2600, which I was told is a great deal. I searched endlessly for the 2011 WHITE SE Ninja around my area, but they were either too expensive, or too far. I plan on removing the fairings and painting them pearl white. I also want to add a custom exhaust, haven't chosen one yet... 1) Do you think the cosmetic damage on the bike could be covered up to a good extent with a good paint job? I'm ok with it being a little visible, but what's your take? 2) How much would replacing the fairing(s) in the damaged area cost? 3) How lengthy is the process of removing the fairings? The paint job would cost me $400-500 if I removed them myself, but a lot more if I didn't and they charged labor. PICS: |

Learn to take off the fairings yourself. You are going to need to learn how to do this anyway if you plan to own this bike for any length of time. There is a link on how to do it in the DIY section.
BTW white Ninjas = the hotness |

Firstly, welcome to the forum.
Now to attempt to answer your questions: 1. I would try using ColorRite if the scratches aren't too deep (pictures and depth perception don't go along, so can't really tell), if they are bondo that b!tch and apply colorRite (why pay ca$h when you can use it to buy your exhaust!) 2.Too much = Not even worthy of contemplation 3.Very easy after you get used to it. Go see the DIY and make a point of storing the bolts/nuts/grommets. (I usually use a small zip lock bag to keep mine from escaping) ...mo' advice? If you're tight on finances but want the best sounding slip-on? Go with DanMoto GP carbon. If not, I'd get a full AreaP exhaust or if you wanna stick with a slip-on, go Akrapovic. I'd look into getting better front turn signals (I understand the appeal of flushmounts, I have them myself), but get ones that protrude a little bit to offer front visibility. Here are mine for example: Oh!...RED is faster, hotter, has more sex appeal and is the best looking

its easy. I repainted my whole bike. Took awhile, but was easy to take off and put on. Do it yourself, ride it a bunch then sell it for what you got it for or more if you made it look really nice. THats what I did.
I bought my bike for $2500

A good paint job isn't cheap. You'll probably spend around $800 - $1000 for a good paint job. Don't cheap out, you get what you pay for. Also, have them preserve the decals and make sure the Kawasaki logo on the tank is under the clear coat like the factory paint job.

Wow, thanks for the help guys! Lots of great responses.
I am buying the bike this evening after work ^_^. I'm not gonna get new fairings. I'll learn to remove them myself and learn other things w/ the DIY stickies. The paint job will be good, clear coat and everything. I know the guy, so not worried about the quality. What do you guys think about the Yoshimura slip on exhaust? IDC about performance, it's more about aesthetics for me. |

Yoshi looks good, but I think the two bros looks the best. I had a Danmoto because they were so cheap.

I am getting a Yoshi slip-on too. Might has to get a new heat sheild too cause mine is all rusty.
i am more worry about installation tho. I am a real meachic noob (i attemp to literally 'slip off' the stock exhaust and 'slip on' the yoshi with out any tool (like how you zip up a zipper). Good luck bro.
