Waxes / Polishes

What brand of wax / polish do you use? I have been using Turtle Wax for years but now I see all these new brands and types.
Also, do you use natural wax or synthetic?

Must be natural (Carauba).

A few years ago Kawasaki was giving some away at bike week. It is called KawaChem Premium Paint Polish and Sealant (added teflon protection). I don't have much left but it was great.

Rick, I figured you would use "Snake Oil" (pun on user name).

I use this... synthetic, leaves no white residue, easy to apply/ remove and leaves a slick, high gloss finish when done.

I got some Turtle wax, previously used on my Suzuki ( car ). Is it good enough for the bike? What is the difference between natural and synthetic wax? May be it depends how old the paint is ?

For many years I've used good old spray can "furniture polish", such as Pledge. I don't spray it directly on the bike, but rather spray it on a clean rag and use the rag to wipe down the bike.

It works great! And it's cheap too...

I've been using Turtle Wax ICE. Seems to work good. No residue. Can be applied in the direct sun. JUST DON"T WAX THE SEAT! :P

Yeah, first time I waxed the bike, I had to wear a cup for about 2 months... That ICE stuff is SLICK! Made cornering easier though. Less friction when switching sides of the bike I was leaning off of...

Was that a sippy cup? Always wax your nuts and not the seat.

I do the same thing. It gives it a nice wet look polish to the shiny bits.

I first read about furniture polish back in the mid-1990s on rec.motorcycles
At first I thought "c'mon", but it really does work well. It gives a nice shine to the bodywork too. I've usually owned a bike for an average of four years, and none of them ever showed any problems with using Pledge or whatever.

used to use spray pledge to wax the dorm floors in the military when "surprise" inspections would pop up. works great to shine floors, too, but it makes them really slippery.

I still use that trick to polish the floors at home..my wife doesn't like the slippery floors, but they look sweet.

I use Meguiars motorcycle liquid wax which I believe is synthetic. It works OK considering how easy it is to use. I may start using Zaino when my bottle runs out but i'm not sure I want to spend that much time waxing. From what i've seen it is worth it though.

I use Nu Car finish that comes in the orange bottle. It does a great job. The Pledge routine is used on most of the bicycles I know. It is very effective and there is no buildup. Just don`t use Lemon Pledge because when that interacts with the sun, it will fade your paint.

I've used "Pig Snot Super Cleaner" which worked out pretty good. But a warning about non-coated aluminum use turned me to the S100 Cleaner, Suzuki SP-5A motorcycle wash, and for polishing "Next Dimension Original Spray Cleaner and Polish" which gives it that dealer showroom shine
Also sparingly use the polish for my helmets to bring back that fresh and glossy shine! Use Meguiers plastic polish for windshield and headlight cover.

same here bruce. have used pledge for years, but recently found this other furniture polish at Ace Hardware called Quality Care, and there's something in this one that out-shines Pledge.
of course, i'm sure to always have a turtle wax coat below the furniture polish 'touch ups' due to the fact that the f/p alone won't last through a good rain day ride.

I used to that also, funny as hell when my neighbor walked in wearing socks, caught himself on the fridge and the sink.

Depends if you garage keep it or not. I've used a bunch of waxes, and although NuCar's shine is a little bit less than other waxes, it's the only one that lasts more than two months for me.
