Run Both Headlights?
I didn't see a DIY anywhere for this, has anyone done this one yet? I'm going to install some halo rings so I figured I would do this too. Seems to me it's as simple as running both lights off of the lowbeam wires and taping off the highbeam only. If no one has done it yet, let me know and I will post pics and instructions.

Sounds like a cool mod but I am not sure that the generator can handle the load of both high and low beam at the same time.

It should if both lights operate in high beam mode. They do don't they? I never got off of my bike to look.

ummm... so what 's wrong with just leaving the highbeam light switch in the on position?
you might want to be able to turn off the highbeam someday. |

You could wire then into a seperate switch independent of the high/low switch.

i'm confused, are you trying to change your stock light setup, or add additional lights?

One light will always be brighter than the other...it's the reflector that is different between the bulbs.

You go ahead and activate both your lights thinking its a cool idea, then get caught in some fog on the way home from a trip. When your staring at a bright white sheet of fog 5 feet in front of you, you can remember it was me that told you not to mod your bike like this. Having the option of only 1 light on low beam is important, it helps keep the road lit, but also minimizes the amount of reflection of fog blinding your sight.

From my own experiences in a car, low beams work better for me in fog. I decided to do a quick google and came up with this...
http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/saf...s/badfog.shtml edit: http://bcrider.com/lowtraffic.html <-- this website is specific to motorcycles and concurs with my point.

I wouldn't mess with it personally. Wouldn't it also blind oncoming drivers? I don't think its a wise idea.

At some point people stopped understanding my original intent - Modify the lights so that both lights are on at all times, NOT highbeams at all times. The modification looks to be quite simple; just using the low beam wire for both lights. The relay switches the low beam light to high beam and simply shuts off the high beam in low beam mode. So, just tape off the high beam wire. The switch will server the same function, just that both lights will always function.

the bulbs are both 55 watt,it's the reflectors behind the bulbs that make one seem brighter than the other

You can buy HID projectors with angel eyes from F-Sane on Kawiforums. Then you will have two lights on all the time and when you switch to high beam a flap moves to increase the light output.
It is not cheap and it requires slot of modifications to the headlight housing but the light output is amazing. Posted via Mobile Device |
