2012 cbr250r

I think these just came out...because I just noticed lol

Starts at $4,099

w/ABS $4,599

Pictures...looks like they brought the European model color here...

I think the scheme is gross. Why doesn't the front hugger match the rear? Just my opinion.

Agree on the paint scheme, Nick. Also ugly exhaust and uglier front mirrors makes it look like a bug. Out of the box, not as fun to ride as the Ninjette. Likely very reliable, though, and like the ABS option.

I heard they are having problems with valves (clapping) and Honda won't do anything about it...I don't blame them if there is a problem. It's was the first year of the bike. I would expect there to be problems. The new bikes with this body type are grotesque in my opinion.

If I owned that bike, the first thing I would do would be take off the chin fairing and paint it white to match the rest of the bike, and find a way to paint the hugger red to match the front fender.

oh hey wait, I will be looking into painting my cbr hugger once I get it installed

Lime green! duh!

It depends. There's really no well defined line to mask off and paint, so I might not. It all depends on how it looks once it's on...

We'll see once we get to installing it in 2 weeks. Patience grasshoppah! Not to mention the color matching paint from colorrite is expensive.

I can't say I'm the biggest fan of the look, but a lot of non-riders seem to dig mine

A lot of people are saying the rattling thing is the fairing, possibly near the headlight from what I read, and I've never noticed an issue of any sorts.

Fun-wise...well it's just different all around. Getting my parts smashed into the tank on crap roads near my house isn't fun either. The suspension on the CBR is much better for commuting and crap roads. I also like the lack of revving drama at lights. Getting better gas mileage also puts a grin on my face. I will say I did prefer the Ninjette in twisties as the suspension just made corners a lot better, and the CBR suspension can get a little iffy on tight corners. Also the braking felt better on the Kawi. However, 95% of my riding is commuting/touring and the CBR does it for me. Also EFI is nice too in my winter commute Plus on the freeway it buzzes less, and the stock seat is definitely better, a definite upgrade on 300+ mile days.

Also nothing's better than running patriotic colours, I want one of those

I like the color scene actually.

I personally want this one.

Might just be my new bike after I graduate college and get a job that is.

I like the version with white wheels on the Honda website better though.

Yes I did know that actually

But coincidentally, whenever you go in a government building, the flags always have the gold fringe. Heck, even the boyscouts use a flag with gold fringes

I'm not trying to argue anything here...

Nick said that gold wasn't on the American flag. I showed an example where it was.

Oh gotcha. I must have just been imaging a debating vibe. then. I'm going crazy for real here...

Yep they were. There are tons of eagle scouts in Military Academies and the armed forces. Not to mention places like the Senate, and the House, and the office of the President, and astronauts and lots of cool places like that. Not sure if that's a factor of being an eagle scout, or just a factor of the type of person who becomes an eagle scout, or a combination. I wish I became an eagle scout. I helped with the service hours on all my friends' eagle projects. I however dropped out of boy scouts in 4th grade

Nick, the CBR 250 is basically just a mini-cruiser with a plastic body. I think a Prius with a dead battery can out accelerate and outrun the things. Don't confuse the new ones with the old ones that had 4 cylinders and power roughly equivalent to the Ninjette. The new CBR 250's only have one cylinder. That's half what a decent riding lawnmower has.

Don't be tempted by them. A Ninja is the only 250 cc sport bike worth having.

Pretty sure that's false too. Those were putting out like 40+ hp at insanely high rpm's. I haven't seen a ninjette doing that lately

Ok, a prius with a charged battery can outrun it. Actually, its true. The prius top speed is 103 mph. The CBR 250R is only about 90 mph.

But yes, the 1999 CBR 250 had 4 cylinders and power roughly the same as the pregen (not the newgen). It actually was slightly better, but not that much (37.5 HP vs. 40 HP). The main thing was that the old cbr 250 got over 94 mpg and had a top speed of about 110 mph.

Honda seems to have a policy of dropping product lines whenever they get too popular.

Ninja 250s aren't that amazing top speed wise either.....

Because we're all just gunning it at top speed 100% of the time.

Must be awesome doing that...

as a 250 rider, are you really looking at fast by only looking at top speed??

idk where you're getting your numbers from, but for the CBR250RR, those numbers are at the wheel, where for the ninja, those numbers are at the flywheel. Ninja 250's get mid-high 20's at the wheels.

Link to original page on YouTube.

You do know all the big 4 had a 250cc inline 4 screamer until the 90's right? Not just Honda. (ZX2R, CBR250RR etc...) They all got dropped from production, and were never imported into the US except for private imports

The accelleration of a new cbr 250 isn't that much better than a prius either.

2011 Toyota Prius Hybrid 0-60 mph 9.7 secs
2011 CBR250R 0-60 mph 8.5 secs
1999 CBR250RR 0-60 mph 5.0 secs
2011 Ninja 250R 0-60 mph 7.7 secs
2006 Ninja 250R 0-60 mph 5.75 secs

Sources hyperlinked.

Yes, its sad that the never sold the old CBR250RR here. It looked like a nice bike. It was definitely faster than the Ninjette, but not by much.

Also, to give the devil his due, I have heard rumors that there are chips that you can put in the new CBR250R that give it better performance, but stock, it sucks.

We've done this before. It didn't.

Converted to numbers we're more familiar with, that is 94 mpg, at a constant speed of 37 mph (in top gear). The bike would get nowhere near 94 mpg on a standard mileage loop today, or in normal usage either.

When I was first learning to ride my Ninja I rode over to Wellington, a local neighborhood, and just rode around until I was just about out of gas. The average speed limit was about 35-40. At the next fill up, it worked out to 80 mpg. That was with real live traffic and starting and stopping and such. It would have probably done 94 on a constant speed dyno as well. At real speeds, it was about 70 mpg pretty regular and then dropped to 58 when they upped the percentage of ethanol recently.
