nope end of the range for the 636 at least. The valves would close after 12k to meet emission standards

I'm guessing its different for the 750 though. With the different modes the valves will close or open. The Porsche Carrera "S" and I believe the "Turbo" also close the valves in standard mode but when in sport they open up all the way.

oh wow closed up top instead of down low... i guess it makes sense... i would have thought it would be linked to throttle position... so its closed when you have low throttle to keep things quiet and cleaner but opens when you go wot

BIKE magazine played with a bunch of different bikes with the EXUP-style exhaust valves a year or two back. Way back when (10+ years ago), those valves were helpful in maintaining mid-range power while still allowing full-throttle high-rev power when opened. But over time, with more modern FI, better exhaust design, and more modern ECU capabilities, the valves started to have nothing to do with power at all, and are solely in place to meet noise restrictions. Removing the valve completely affected nothing at all on the dyno, whether low, mid-range, or top-end. The sole goal (and sole result) was that the bikes then meet noise restrictions. Removing it adds noise, but gains no power anywhere.

Alex thats wrong... Look at the 636, it will make almost a 10hp gain over 13k with the valves taken out/ jumpered

When I did it to the 636 there is a pretty big difference, at 14k the front of the bike is still fighting to stay down in first gear, where before it wouldnt

The test I'm referring to was done in 2009. The 636 had dated electronics when it was last released in 2006, and the valve for that bike was put into place exclusively for noise control. It didn't increase midrange power, and its sole purpose was to get it through the US certification. Yanking that valve by pulling it and using the jumper to load the alternate FI map did have a noticeable increase in power, as listed in your dyno (which still doesn't show a 10 hp gain at any point though, unless the scale is off; it's a heck of alot closer to 5 hp).

As such a big deal had been made out of these "power valves" in the past, their goal was to see if they really did anything of import to help the midrange or anywhere else, and at this point they no longer do. But they play a great role in getting powerful and high revving sportbikes through US certification.

Never tried it, but they make a product called Speedohealer which supposedly can recalibrate everything to work accurately. Not sure if it's worth $115 though.

Also, I had to remove my EXUP valve since it's prone to seize so figured cautionary maintenance. It's increases noise up to 6k and peope say it actually reduces torque down low unless I re-map. Who knows, but editing maps is simple

Feels like the mode button shuts the exhaust valve and makes the bike quieter and more rounded power and less power. Then mode a seems like it opens up and all the power is there. Would this be right? Just a guess.
I don't plant upgrade the exhaust any time soon so I guess it will remain there.
I need to get over to gsxr forums and research some schmeg.

Love this bike. Nice smooth puring ride up idyllwild tonight. Almost got my camera adjusted right again..

I kinda like the stock titanium exhaust. Everything on this bike is loaded.
Mode B is for city riding and keep cops away. Nice and quiet and well mannered/well rounded.
Mode A is for the twisties and gobbling gas haha

I notice the acceleration kinda starts to die off in fifth and sixth gear.
You'd have to have a good bit of room to redline 5th.

I can't do it on a public road anywhere around here. Don't even want to try..

Love this bike way too much. The sound, the feel the looks, everything.
but the speedometer reading off. Nothing is ever perfect, but I've learned to deal with that by now.

Fairly certain you'd need a clean track to take full advantage of this bikes acceleration in the lower gears. It can haul out pretty dang quick! I'd be afriad to get too itchy with the throttle one day and get carried away in the twisties. Just gonna take it easy.

I have to make this new bike go past the six month statistic. After it's paid down a lot I will cut loose on it more. Itching to do a big fat wheelie but no way in hell after the video the dealer showed me lol. Nope, we need to keep this machine in one piece.

Nice and smooth. Felt like a 600 but less jerky.

I took an idyllwild video for you guys today but turned out crappy.
I either need a gopro or a new iphone mounting location behind the windshiled that wont hit anything. I should have made them throw a gopro camera into the bike deal along with the cowl haha. Next time I know. You guys are right, they are dying to sell the bikes right now and you can go in and ask for what you want!

Tried to take some ninjette stunt videos but ran out of camera power and it was pretty hot and I got annoyed. Looking forward to winter..

The mode switches are completely different fueling and ignition maps. The maps may very well have different programming for the exhaust valve, but it's more complex than just off=B, on=A. It will still be partially closed for a portion of A mode, and it will likely be open for a portion of B mode.

KC I gotta say it looked amazing in person and up close. Also sat on pretty much the 600 version of yours (same color scheme) at Bert's and Gixx was the most comfortable 600 by FAR. Love how that rear end looks, if you don't mind me saying about your "girl" haha.

Is the 600 pretty similar as far as seating position?

New to me. New stuff to learn! I like it.

Gurk the 600 is the same frame I guess just bigger engine.

I don't know exactly the differences yet, I don't have the new service manual.
Has to start with a bigger bore I would assume but you guys know my limited engine internals knowledge.

My first bike was a Zuki and will hopefully be back to riding one in 2 years with a 750 gsxr and leave the ninjette for the wife.

Hard to go wrong with the blue/white color scheme but I'm hoping the 750 will be offered in a black/white version like the 600.

anyone have any idea what/where the throttle valves are?
I need to synchronize them.
I think I can hear a slight oscillation on the freeway while cruising and the user manual says I should inspect them at the first service. I would guess this is the cause of the issue. I'm looking for the answer on GSXR.com now, just thought I'd see what you guys think.


Ohhhh is that the rotating intake plates under the airbox?

Hmm just found a mod to remove the secondary intake butterflies and that magic wire you guys spoke of to fix the exhaust "SET" valve. Uh oh..

I tried removing the secondary carb butterflies and there was a bit more power and it was smoother off the throttle to ride, but it eliminates the dual mode button. lol It was a hair smoother all around though.
It would seem the carb secondary butterflies have the majority of the control over the mode.

I think I'll put it back to the way it was just so when I want the bike to be quiet I can flip to mode b. I like having both modes for street riding. It's how you say "Ninjaaaaaa".

The secondary butterflies close off the carb and make the bike quieter like before you yank the airbox on the ninjette. Then you yank it and the ninjette starts to ROAR.
That is, if you used no velocity stacks on your pods..

I found some little tweekable screws on the throttle bodies too I would assume this is a synch screw. I need a service manual and a synch machine thingy.

Now to go yank the airbox and put the secondaries back in. lol Day spent learning again!
I heard doing the throttle valve wire makes the biggest difference but need more research. Prolly shouldn't be tweeking things until I have service manual.

Taht 750 is effing sweet! As far as i know the modes were idiot buttons that would decrease its power in hopes of keeping squids alive. They took the lowest one out as no one ever used it they said lol.

I am with you on the 600 better to ride then the 250 as well. I love my ninjette and i commute on it every day but it always seemed jittery to me in the corners, Lack of power on long rides kind of sucked as well. I know people will blast me over that, yes i know the ninjette can do long rides, i have done them on it, all day rides and trust me they are better on the 600 for sure. Hell even sharon will be riding the fazer when she is ready.

I cant wait to check your baby out soon.

Seems there is no service manual available yet for the 2011. lol
But, I did find out which wire deactivates the SET valve on the exhaust and causes about 2hp gain, nicer sound and 2lb loss I guess.
Will try again tonight.

I had the whole thing off the other night but I got an FI code light so put it back on. Of course tonight I figure it out and have to pull it out again.

There is also a small baffle you can punch out of the stock titanium exhaust. =)

If you aren't careful, They'll knock it back up to $12999 MSRP plus $1000 tax plus $1000 gap and you'll be back up to $15000 again while you aren't looking.... before financing. (You could get out the door on a 750 for like 20,000 if you aren't careful lol) I was able to get that deal after financing. Plus it is a 750 and I finagled them a bit for dealer fees, crate, assembly and all that BS charges they wanted to give me and I wouldn't take.

Good luck on that one. Hope you get one on sale without the reamage. Make sure you bargain and play hard ball and walk out a few times. Don't forget you can always go somewhere else. Use that notion to your dealing advantage like I just learned here from Ninjette and at the dealer. My Dealer said he didn't want to lose me even though I had only $1000. He bent over to work with me and that's what you need to look for. Don't go to Bert's... where the dealers make you come to them and start asking. Go to the small mom and pop shop who's about to close down and needs your business and is all over you like flies on dog poop when you walk in the door, pouring on the customer service like BBQ sauce on the baster.

So yesterday I finally got the exhaust SET valve servo out of the bike, and I managed to cut the right ECU wire so no more exhaust FI code is thrown.

No FI light code thrown by the dashboard after cutting the right wire.

Next I have to learn how to set up the In-Dash shift light and RPM gauge.
Also the suspension setup and I have to order one of those four barrel synchronizers so I can synch the throttle bodies and get rid of the slight oscillation I can hear at cruise speed on the freeway. =)

Then she should be all dialed in to go for another couple thousand after one more oil change.
I may try and knock that baffle out of the exhaust also.

Other than that, she doesn't need any more mods. Maybe a Yoshi exhaust a year or two down the road to kick her up again later and give me something to play with.

The mode button still works with the secondary carb butterflies involved but kinda stopped working when I took them out, so I left them in for sake of keeping the mode button useful.
They say it's a nice feature if you have to ride in the rain or on dirt.

If you don't mind me asking, what is your insurance cost for that sweet thing? There is a guy in my apartment complex yesterday saying his ninja 600 costs him $2k a year. I'm having a hard time justifying paying 1/4 the price of a bike in insurance. I didn't get to talk to the guy because he ignored me after realizing I ride a 250. I guess I am "beneath" him since I don't have a 'cool' bike. I am wondering if that is his insurance cost due to his recklessness or if that is really what it costs for bikes higher than 250s.

Worth
every
penny.

When I bought the bike, I paid an extra $800 GAP. To cover what my insurance will not if I crash the bike. I did not pay for 48 mo extended warranty. If I break it I'll learn to fix it myself..

PS, I'm above no biker because I have a GSXR.

If you don't worship this particular bike, then there is probably no reason for you to buy one of these over a ninja 250R. I would gladly pay plenty extra for one of these because I have liked them for a while and owned a few and know what I am paying for.

The Ninja 250R's aren't such a bad bike.
Maybe just need a bit more get up and go for the freeway and a good suspension makeover.
You pay a lot more in gas and insurance for a bike over 250CC's.

As long as that rider enjoys what he is riding, he won't care what he is paying.
It's worth it.

I just cancelled the ins on the Ninjette. It's official.. the GSXR is my only street legal machine right now. The Ninjette is solely for stunt.

I was tearing it up on the 250 yesterday in the driveway ask Kevin lol
I'm really not such a bad stunter on a good day.
I'm starting to get a little bit good at it.. on a 250!

Damn thing just has crumby front brakes doesn't do stoppies like the 750 can. Well, I guess it can, but it's much harder.
