That equates to a bit over 31.5 horsepower and a bit under 15.5 ft. lbs.

So yeah, a tad beefier than the current bike. With normal losses at the rear wheel, power might turn out a bit lower compared to a current bike with a full exhaust, jet kit, etc.

Stock this is going to kill the CBR for those who want a bit more performance. The CBR is already down on power compared to the 08-12 Ninjette. I'm sure that once the aftermarket catches up with the new bike things will get very interesting.

I'm also interested in the ergos and want to see if the fairings can accommodate clip-ons (and whether or not we still have 37mm forks). That's months away, of course….

So far I'm really liking it. Would have liked to see a gear indicator and suspension adjustability, but whatever. It is what it is.
from what ive seen.... it accomodate perfectly clip ons (the adjustable ones) and i think theyre still 37mm forks....

We'll just have to wait and see. There's a difference between being able to fit clip-ons and being able to set them the way you want them. I have the Shinto adjustable clip-ons on my 2008 bike and the fairing lowers prevent me from getting them exactly the way I'd like… the blocky switch gear gets in the way.

ughhhhh whyyy.
I wanted a white bike so badly! I'm running through scenarios of how I can get one..crash das bike collect das insurance and get das white bike??!!
Alas, I should not be greedy. Our current bikes are still very good and mine definitely get's the job done with a smile and a laugh. And I have gotten pretty attached to it. If, knock on wood, I do crash again, this new new gen will be mine!!

It appears to be slightly less than the current FI bike (23.5 kw instead of 24), and only the slightest bit stronger than the carb bike (23.5 kw instead of 23.4). Here are the kawi specs from the service manual for the 2008-2012 FI bike in Europe:

Quote:
Cylindrée cm³ 249 cm³
Alésage x course 62,0 x 41,2 mm
Taux de compression 11,6:1
Distribution DOHC, 8 soupapes
Puissance maxi 33 ch (24 kW) à 11 000 tr/min
Couple maxi 2,24 kgf m (22 Nm) à 8 200 tr/min
Type d'alimentation Injection : 2 x ø 28 mm (Keihin) Double papillo
Here are the carb version specs:

Quote:
Type: 4-stroke, DOHC, 2-cylinder
Cooling System: Liquid-cooled
Bore And Stroke: 62.0× 41.2 mm (2.5 × 1.6 in.)
Displacement: 249 cm³ (15.2 cu in.)
Compression Ratio: 11.6
Maximum Horsepower: 23.4 kW (31.8 PS) @11 000 r/min (rpm),
Maximum Torque: 22.0 N·m (2.24 kg·m, 16.2 ft·lb) @9 500
Carburetion System: Carburetor, Keihin CVK 30× 2

Andrew, from what I see there's many space for other clip ons to the back but to the front it looks like it's limited.
If on the second gen you go with the Woodcrafts and also take the riser spacer from them you're able to play with positioning them.
My clip ons now are 15 mm above the upper triple clamp and 30 mm in the front of it. With this setup the bike feels absolute great.
For not hitting the fairings I use this: http://japan.webike.net/products/19841668.html
But I'd need to cut it by 3 mm, so it'll fit better and doesn't limit the steering so much (excuse me for my english, I hope you understand what I'm talking about).
Please take a look at my pictures.

Um, its a 250 not a 300, so there's no apology necessary since the terms of that apology weren't met? He was wrong.

Ain't gonna happen until Kawi USA is done prepping their marketing materials. Think a little bit about how corporations work, they're not that hard to understand. If Indo is ready for their press release, US is either not too far behind, or not doing it at all.

Regarding the new engine, I would point out these bits of information:

Kawasaki has claimed the new engine increases low and mid range torque.
The engine specs posted show the same peak torque, 22nm, but note that on the FI model is comes on at 8200RPMs, vs 9500RPMs with the carbureted model.

aren't the pregen technically '3rd generation'? and the newgen '4th generation'?

Then the 2013 should be 5th gen

The first choice is model, second line is from what year to what. Or you can search using frame number at the second arrow. (May not work for non-Japanese models)

Or if you are looking for their official accessories then:

http://www.kawasaki-motors.com/model...250r/parts.jsp

If you use Firefox and have a need to look at Japanese sites - I highly recommend the add-on called Rikaichan. It will translate the Japanese for you one word or phrase at a time, making it easier to search around simple Japanese pages. (Not recommended for full text translation.)

Back on Topic:

I like the angular look of the new fairings but do think they should have kept the side covered a bit more. It will be interesting to see what options they send to The States.

The way that they sweep the exhaust down to the left then under the engine is interesting. I guess since the fairings don't go so far back on the underside (as shown in this pic) it alleviates the clearance problem. It also allows them to sharpen the front of the fairings to a more aerodynamic point. Surely an improvement related to the heat coming up out of the fairings but wouldn't the twists in the exhaust constrict airflow a bit more than necessary? It's gonna be really interesting to see what the after-market exhaust manufacturers do with the reduced clearance on the sides of the fairings and all that open space underneath. I think I'm gonna like it
Thanks. I was hoping to find the parts fiche of the 2013 so I could really see what different. I agree that the sides should have stayed covered. Even without the false frame that's now part of the side fairings, it looks weird to see so much cosmetic shaping on the exhaust hanger/footpeg and then see a plain tube that it attaches to. It's clear that one was meant to be seen and one wasn't.

Actually, that would make the Canadian 2003-2007 EX250 the "4th gen" and the new 2013 would be 6th gen. FWIW, it was called the ZZR250 in some markets.

Just found this thread. Lots of excitement in here Glad that kawasaki has done this. The new design doesn't look that great to me though: I think I prefer the 2008+ design: it's bubbly, friendly and looks 'fuller' from the side. The only things about the 2013 ninjette that really appeal to me are the ABS and the integrated turn signals.

I hope that you guys in America get F.I. with this new ninjette.

Time to sit back and continue enjoying the excitement

Well.. it seems like I'm coming back to Ninjette. I love every aspect of this re design. The fairings look superb, adds a little more aggressivness to it. The wheels are nice, the gauge looks nice, and if it comes in FI, I'll take two!

Kawasaki has claimed the new engine increases low and mid range torque.
The engine specs posted show the same peak torque, 22nm, but note that on the FI model is comes on at 8200RPMs, vs 9500RPMs with the carbureted model.
Both of those specs I posted are for the 2008-2012 motor. The 2013 motor reaches its maximum of 21 nm at 10,000 RPM.

In other words, the peak specs don't necessarily prove or disprove their claim, one would need to see a dyno chart to see what the hp/tq numbers looks like at 7k rpm or so on the two motors.

Engine produces .1kw over stock carbs, I'm just going to guess that jetted carbs will out perform in terms of power the stock EFI. I'll be very interested to see the dyno charts for both. My guess based on where they changed the peak torque to is that the stock carbed version will have more HP in the power band while the EFI has more HP down low. Either way I don't think the difference will be very noticeable.

The guage cluster is very cool. Personally I prefer my 250s analog cluster over my 1000s digital cluster but thats just me

FI certainly does make it more noob friendly. Only downside is it just got much more expensive to tune, change out exhausts and modify air intake.

The wheels are gay dude.

The exhaust is even gayer.

I like the old wheels better as well. But the exhaust is 100 times better looking than the stock exhaust on the 08-12s youre crazy
