1300 Miles each way?
I live in WA, and my buddy just moved down to AZ. Its about 1300 miles to his place.
How long would it take to accomplish this ride on a 250? I know it can phyiscally do it no problem at the legal speed limits. But how does it drain the rider? What should I expect on a trip like this on the 250? Just kinda looking for a heads up |

Sore butt....unless you have a Corbin!
As long as you rest as needed just as you would if your drove the cage...you'll be fine and have tons of fun. All that riding on the highway may get a bit boring though. Map a route to include some country roads.

It would take one day. Or less if you are quick at gas stops... I've done 1500 in 36 hours on a classic 250 and that was with 6-8 hours off bike time and some slow stops...

If you are new to riding I think you would find 400 miles in a day a lot.

400 miles a day is a reasonable target if you do it right. Personally, I wouldn't want to do much more than that. So you could conceivably do it in three days... but I'd allow four for contingencies like weather, being just too tired and sore to keep going on a given day, etc.
Four 325 mile days are going to be a LOT more relaxing and enjoyable than three 433.3333333 mile days. Critically important tips: - Stop regularly even when you don't think you need to. Once an hour, say. Just for a minute or two to get off the bike. - Learn how to shift positions. Sit up, tuck, move all over the seat, redistribute your weight in different ways, rest your chest on the tank bag.... in my experience soreness comes mostly from staying in one posture for too long. I did a 2600 mile tour last summer with the stock seat and was not overly uncomfortable at any time, because I paid a lot of attention to moving around on the bike. - Try hard to not have "must make" targets. Follow your nose and relax. If you see something interesting or cool, stop and check it out. If you don't make your goal for that day, don't sweat it... there's always tomorrow. Make the trip itself enjoyable, rather than a chore you have to take care of to visit your friend. - On your next day off hop on the bike and go for a 450-mile ride. That will tell you everything you need to know about this trip. |

400 mile days are for the weak!
With a friend of mine and I we accomplished 3501miles on Labor Day extended weekend in '09. That was a helluva trip! The last leg of it was the most fun, but the most physically demanding... We went some 260 miles from Columbia, SC to Deal's Gap. We tore through Deal's Gap (whatever mileage that added up to, I almost used a tank of gas) most of that afternoon before continuing home.... another 550miles! It probably was a 1000mi day! Yes my seat has been repadded by me. I have a video on Youtube of the trip:

the most i went in one day was 450 miles or so. but that was with a lot of traffic and getting lost and took me around 10 hours with minimal breaks. granted, the first 3 hours were in cold rain and it sucked, but i am guessing that i wouldnt have wanted to go any longer than that even without the rain. but id say youd be perfectly fine doing 400 ish miles per day.
+1 for country roads. they make it worth the little extra time. highway gets boring... anyway, good luck! hope it goes well |

Oh man, we had an awesome time! I just wish I had more time off of work, I would have spent another day at Deal's Gap!

I just drove with a friend in her SUV from BC to Arizona and back a couple of weeks ago.
I would give yourself at least two days each way, and even then, 650 miles a day is a long haul on any bike. You figure that if you stick to the posted speed limit and don't stop too often, that's still a solid 10 hours on the road each day. Personally I would spread it out over three days each way if I was on a bike. Maybe even allow four days each way, and then you have time to stop along the way and take some pictures.
