90/80-16 Front Tire?
I currently have a Dunlop K630 on the front, and it blows, as well as weighing in at 10.12 pounds according to denniskirk.com... I would like to save as much weight as possible, and I found a Michelin City Grip in a 90/80-16 that only weighs 7.05 lbs which is 3lbs of unsprung weight reduction!!
If I run the 90/80-16 up front, I will also be running a Michelin City Grip 120/80-16 in the rear(9.55 lbs), since it is 5.7 lbs lighter than the stock Dunlop K630 130/80-16 (15.25 lbs), which is again, a massive improvement! This would be a total of 8.7 lbs off of my unsprung weight altogether! I'm also familiar with the City Grips having used them on my Burgman 400, and they have awesome tread wear and performance. Would there be any downside to running this size tire? I do ride fairly aggressively on twisty roads. |

No downsides really. You shouldn't even come close to 50% of those tyre’s limits on twisty roads. If you do, you're doing something very, very wrong and very, very dangerous...

Cool. I just ordered the City Grip 90/80-16 for the front. I'll see how it works out. Currently I have a Pirelli Diablo Scooter 130/80 on the rear and it has a little more life in it and is in good shape, so I'll replace it when its toast. I'll let you know how the lighter and skinnier tire works out... I'm very curious to see if it is an actual 3 lb weight reduction, and how that will change the handling of the bike.

Note that worn tyres will be lighter than new of same model. Not sure how much weigh you‘ve worn off old tyres. Should weigh them to compare with your new ones. Won’t be as dramatic reduction as you’ve calculated.

Excellent point, still even if I save a pound or 2 per tire, that's a nice improvement. I'm also curious to see how the turn is with the 90/80. I know my old KZ440 had that up front and a 100 in the back and it turned into corners like a bicycle.
