Air filter box smells like gasoline

When I removed the side panels on my motorcycle, I noticed a strong odor of gasoline coming from the air filter box. I read previously that the motorcycle recirculates vapor from the engine back to the intake to burn off harmful stuff, but I thought that’s only oil fume. Is it normal to have gasoline smell from the filter?

I unplugged the drain hose from the gas tank, and the smell did not seem to come from there.

I did some digging and found this post, although it didn’t appear to have an answer to my issue.

Thanks.

Test your petcock to make sure it's not leaking fuel through when engine's off.
