'06 With a Blown Engine (Austin, TX)
Heyo so my bike recently blew its head gasket at 33k. I think it was the radiator fan going out intermittently that just snowballed.
Anyway, the bike is otherwise in fair shape. It's had its share of drops and a slide but that was some 15k ago and had ridden fine since (other than the head gasket obviously). I'd say the main draw at this point is that I custom painted it and plastic-welded the plastics back together. By no means are they spotless but they and the tank have held up well despite it all. These pics were taken a couple months ago. Not much has changed other than a bit of dust. Anyway if anyone's in the Austin area who's interested, shoot me a price. I'm not terribly picky. I loved this bike (literally) to death and it means a lot to me but I like the idea of him staying in some part in the ninjette appreciation community. But I'll be putting him on CL/FB marketplace soon anyway. I already have one broken car in my apartment complex, I don't need to be taking up more space, lol.

You wouldn't consider parting out?
I have a '92 here in Austin (friend of wife gave it to me a couple of years back, sat in barn for 15 years in south Austin before that -- yes, there are still a few barns in south Austin that haven't been converted into million dollar ADUs yet). I use it for grocery runs. I need a right turn front signal. FYI, with blown engine, guessing you won't get much for it, but some parts are worth more than whole bike as-is. For example, tanks go for $300-$500 on eBay, wheels $100 each, etc. If you put on CL, let me know first. If price is right, I buy it myself as a donor. Too bad I just spent the last month resealing the tank and recovering the seat as yours look in great condition. |

Why kill off a perfectly good bike? It can be fixed and someone will get great bike to ride. Takes all of 4-5 hrs to replace that head-gasket. Heck, I've done it after dinner in parking-lot at Willow Springs using flashlights and chopsticks so I could race on Sunday.

Don't sell it. ... Have you sold it? I have a brand new , sealed head gasket. Plus others. We can get you up and running. Unless you need the cash to fix the other auto.

In my head I got the wording crossed/mixed up. I do have a cylinder head gasket. But need to check part numbers. Thanks for looking out!. Dammit GAU! |

Hey squad, update: I didn't sell him! Decided the $16 to keep him insured was worth the time it would take to fix him.
Sorry, I was so disheartened for a while that I didn't come back on here. I ended up buying a new Rebel 500 to fill the void in the meantime. Well between having a month off due to this pandemic and the fact that MY REBEL GOT STOLEN YESTERDAY it's about time to dust off my old project bike. Anyway I know this isn't technically for sale anymore but I thought I'd update y'all.

SO both of my bikes got stolen but THIS BIKE WAS RECOVERED!!!! In awful condition but he's home.
Now it needs more work than ever lmao. But hey, what better time for a project bike? I'm still going with dropping in a 500 engine. May as well since I gotta figure out how bad the methheads messed it up in there.

Just from the sheer lack of sense that went into what they attempted to do to it and their *fabulous* painting skills, my friends and I feel like meth was involved. It was found with no plates and no front blinkers, and no mirrors so I don't think they were trying to make it street legal. Judging from the copious amount of coolant residue on top of the paint, I'd say they got it started and quickly realized they had wasted an outrageous amount of time and effort on a ****ed up bike. So that was the small bit of solace I got from the whole ordeal. I'm glad I wasted the hell out of their time between it being a busted bike and also that every single body bolt and fastener was a random bolt with a different head and size that I'd pull from my toolbox every time an original would fall out. I just tore the body work and tank off it and I needed no fewer than 5 separate allen wrenches, screw drivers, and sockets lmao. At least I can order a full body bolt kit now!
