The 2016 Benelli TRK 502, a small-bore adventure tourer that'll get the job done

If you've always wanted to roll up to your local kebab shop looking like you've just crossed the Sahara Desert on your bike, but couldn't afford the EMIs on a BMW R1200GS, Benelli might have just the thing for you. Yes, we're talking about the new TRK 502, a compact, manageable, cut-price adventure tourer that's powered by Benelli's newly developed 500cc liquid-cooled 8-valve DOHC parallel-twin. With a steel tube trellis frame, 48 horsepower and 45Nm of torque from the engine, 6-speed transmission, 20-litre fuel tank, large fairing for weather protection, and robust, adjustable suspension (USD fork at front, monoshock at the rear), the Benelli TRK 502 sure looks capable of crossing a continent or two.

Given its off-road abilities, the TRK, which weighs 210kg dry, rides on 19-inch (front) and 17-inch (rear) wheels, shod with 120/70 and 160/60 Pirelli Angel dual-purpose tyres. With twin 320mm brake discs at front, with 2-piston calipers, and single 260mm disc at the back, the bike also seems to have sufficient stopping power.

Benelli say that the TRK 502 will hit showrooms by mid-2016 and pricing will be announced later. Chinese ownership finally does seem to be working for this legendary Italian motorcycle manufacturer!
