Just ordered it. The install looks simple enough that even I can do it!

Besides, if it makes me more visible without riding naked , I'm all for it.

I think naked riding only works for women..... actually on second thought, I may have that backward. It may cause cars to drive away from naked male riders, but target-fixate on the females.... well regardless, I'm sure someone could prove it a safety issue one way or another

Yes, this is the brake light flasher to get if you just want basic functionality and easy installation. Honestly, I wouldn't even call it an installation since it takes more work to start your bike!

Here are my pics from my '05 Ninja. Looks like the connectors are the same (although I don't remember seeing a tab on the inside end of the female connector):

In this second pic, you can see the back grab bar. Unfortunately I didn't realize I could reach the connector by removing the seat, and had opened up the underside of the rear end. So yes you can see the floor through the rear end!

Just installed it yesterday. Took just a few minutes and worked like a charm from the first minute. Great product, even if my 20 year old son doesn't understand the need for it.

It's great that even a mechanically disinclined person can install this.

I ordered, received, and installed this mod. Randall is a great seller, fast shipping and email response. Great product, just plug and go.

Randall really has a great product and great service. I ordered off his web site last Thursday night, had two eMail confirmations within the next 24 hours, and the product was in my mail box when I got home last night.

Took longer to open the box and get the seat off than to install it. Great recommendation Kim.

Are you using LED bulbs and not filament?

Note: This module is not suited for filament style bulbs. A filament style bulb is not capable of fast switching, and cannot strobe. The power draw of the filament style bulb will destroy the Braker Flashing Module.

No, the stock bulb, and I thought that that might be the reason, but I read someone say that it would also work on filament bulbs.

I still have that as a possibility on the side, but I wanted to check if anyone has had success using this (or the No-Cut version with connectors) flasher with the stock bulbs.

Well good luck. If you read the full thread you might find some clues.

After I read through the problems some were having I got mine from Randall and the only time I look back is when I'm doing my pre-ride check to be sure the brake lights are working.

So you're saying that you are using the No-Cut version with the stock (filament) bulb?

If so, there must be a difference in the circuit, and it's not just the connectors that make the No-Cut more expensive (and, if it's working with the stock bulb, well worth it).

Thanks for the replies.

Yeah, that much I got, but I just wanted to make sure that the No-Cut unit does work with the stock bulb.

I just read your other thread and it answered my questions. So now I'll buy the no-cut, and open up the superlumination module to check it out.

I used the cut version with no problem. I have a LED bulb but it also worked for me with the stock. Make sure you have it wired in series with the positive brake light wire.

Interesting. Did you get the one with only two cables? If so, I'd like to see how you connected yours, if it's possible to post a picture.

Mind you, the one I have is probably fried already, and I already placed an order for the No-Cut unit, but I'm curious.

Thanks!

I bought one that you splice in but when I splice it into the brake light wire I get the running light flashing and no flashing on the brake light. Any thoughts??

There are three wires that go to the brake light.
(1) ground / neutral
(2) Brake light
(3) running light.
Sounds like you spliced into the running light instead of the brake light. Try swaping the wires.

Well, I had mine connected wrong as well.

Just so everyone has it, the cable's color code is (at least for the 2008 model):

Red - Running light
Blue - Brake light
Black - Ground

So the modulator goes in the blue cable.

^^ Glad you figured it out. There is only 1 wire cut then put the unit in the middle...can't be that hard. I had it running for months. Buy the single wire unit...some guy bought the three wires and could figured out why it didn't work...Jesus!! I thought i was clearly pointed out about buying the single wire unit. Anyways, if you guys having so much trouble, might as well shell out the $35 and get the no cut & plug play version.... but if you can handle cut the blue wire, connect the unit in the middle of the two cut wires and tape them up then save yourself $30...but it does take 3 minutes of your time though

Yeah, I bought the one with two wires, by guidance provided here, and in retrospect, my wiring error was a dumb one.

I still went ahead and bought one of the No-Cut units from Randy (ace_at_mind), and I have to say that the difference in price is very much worth it. Not only because it installs in one minute (literally), but I found the flashing to be more consistent and more visible than with the cheaper modulator; both with the stock filament bulb.

Without any exaggeration, the No-Cut module flashes at least 100 times better than the cheaper one, in regards of the luminance difference between flashes, and the frequency at which it flashes. I'm pretty sure it would make a lot of difference on the street. The cheaper modulator works just fine, but the one from Randy works most excellent.

Kudos on a great product!

take the seat cowl off, unplug the rear tail light harness, plug the module thingamajigger in between. put cowl back on. pretty sure that is all that there is to it. oh, and tape the thingamajigger down.

edit: actually, the first post has the pdf that shows the instructions on how to install it.

UPDATE * * * * * * *

Well today i pulled the bike out and checked out the taillight modulator and turn signals, etc!

Modulators wiring was all good, and no loose connections.

I pulled out the rear taillight, light bulb...

BAM it looked funny, filament was just odd on one side.

So i had 1 more -My last spare- and put it in and BOOYAH!

Taillight modulates like before and rear brake light/running lights all work like normal!!!

So... even thou, the rear brake light worked like stock/normal, it only needed a New Bulb!!!

Im happy, i thought i was gonna have to blow another $25-30 on a new modulator.

This is the THIRD rear light bulb in just over 1 year! My bike Eats them like candy!

I've ridden 2-UP with my GF on back many times!
From short 20mile rides, to 3 hour one way trips!

Rear shock set to #4, cuz #5 is too stiff when i Solo ride. So #4 seems to be the best overall setting.
-Lets face it, do you wanna be always readjusting the rear shock b4/after Each ride you do-?

So if shes sitting waaay back on the seat on avg. maybe her tailbone area is pushing the tip of the very rear portion of the passenger seat down into the plastics and taillight... and with that each bump we rode over... takes its toll on the light bulb?
