Repair question

Hello all,

I had a deer run in right front of me tonight, and I grabbed a handful brake and dropped the bike around 40mph or so.

Thank god for ATGATT. The bike slid about 50 feet on the muffler and Shogun frame slider. All the plastic seems fine other than the slider.

Here is my question. The brake pedal broke and knocked out the glass for the oil. Is that easily repairable or is that a shop job?

Thanks!

That fix is brilliant Kim!

Ash, sorry to hear about the crash. Hopefully you can get the bike up and running again soon.

Does insurance cover your gear? Any other bruises, breaks?

Being that you're sight glass is already broken out, and it would be next to impossible to keep the oil in to warm the engine up, you might want to consider using a hair dryer, or a heat gun if you access to one to significantly but evenly warm up the crank case. It should be just on the brink of too-hot to touch...

Hope that helps, and best of luck getting everything a-spec again!

I'm in the exact same boat, i dropped mine in my apartment complex and it completely broke the right side peg off and broke the oil sight.

Thanks Kkim. And thanks for the support folks! I saw a PT friend to make sure there were no broken bones in my hand - which was very sore when I woke up today - and it just looks like a bad pull.

I read the link - but I also need to replace the ring that the glass is seated in. The whole piece was knocked out.

Also - I can't seem to isolate the exact part number. Three of the part sites used the same diagrams and I can't find the place for the sight glass... Is it attached to the pump assembly? of the "RELEAF" valve assembly?

16082: PUMP-ASSY-OIL or 16130: RELEAF VALVE ASSY?

Thanks again!

The part number is 52005-1009; it is called the gauge, oil level. It is a $10 part.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their input. The bike was repaired a while back, but lingering pain in my left hand made it difficult to work the clutch.

I just got back from a 30min ride and other than a stall at idle (cause unknown - I stopped and increased the idle speed a bit) and a bit of stiffness in the left hand everything seems okay.

Thanks for all the helping getting my 250 back on the road .

Ash, You might want to consider getting one of those wrist immobilizers when you ride (I use one) Also consider wearing it at night. Using "Aspercreme" on your wrist topically about two or three times a day should help. In about two or three weeks you should be OK. Definitely wear the wrist guard when you ride since your left wrist is the clutching wrist. Take one aspirin a day while you are doing this--helps keep the inflammation down. If you can't do aspirin, try Naproxen Sodium (Generic for Aleve--lot cheaper) or Tylenol. The wrist pain is inflammation so you need to address that.

Would the wrist guard be to help him heal, or do you mean as a general precaution against wrist injuries? If the latter, that's actually no a bad idea!
