Fender eliminator - bungee hooks
Question for those with the various brands of aftermarket fender eliminators, do you end up losing the bungee hooks? It appears that way with the different pics that I've seen but I wanted to double check.
Thanks |

I was careful to choose a FE method that would still retain the hooks. I use my hooks, so I made sure I would end up with them. No use making the the bike non functional over looks.

like kelly i wanted to retain the hooks so i can use to tie down stuff i carry for work instead of stuffing everything in my back pack. here's a pic of my mod, it looks a little dark but if you look close enough u can see the hooks.

Thanks for the replies.
Kelly and Rich, what I actually needed to know is if the Targa, Werkes etc. fender eliminators let me keep the hooks or if I have to go the DIY route. It wasn't clear from your answers if you have a manufactured kit or if it was a DIY project. |

I believe the Targa or Comp. Werkes will eliminate the hooks as well as the fender. This is also the reason that I did a DIY (well and saving close to $100).

I'm waiting until winter because up here in Canada our riding season is very short. I don't want any down time except for necessary maintenance.
People joke here that Canada has two seasons, winter and July. Plus, Calgary is near the mountains so we get a lot of wacky weather. The other joke around here is if you don't like the weather right now go inside and check back in 10 minutes. We actually had a fair bit of snow fall back in June. |

I want to also look into doing a FE either by kit or DYI. Kelly's looks good, how did you do it? I'm sure there is a thread or site that might explain this but I thought to ask here. I'm not too keen on working on the bike myself, cutting stuff etc.. I just got this bike but the fender is just stupid. I like the sleek looking of that shovel gone. How did you do it?

Freddie- you can always buy one of the after-market kits (this thread has lots of info), or you could look at the fender elim thread: http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showt...ghlight=fender

Sunny, our pre-gens have two hooks on each side where the new gen only has one on each side and ours hides flush when not in use. Onother plus for our pre-gens.

Sorry about ressurecting this ancient thread.
I lost my hooks when I had my FE installed. Are there any workarounds to get some hooks there? I just got a new tailbag, and just realized this will be a problem for me. Is there something I could mount to the "two bottom holes" of the license plate or something? Thanks guys

On my bike I had a targa fender eliminator which did eliminate the Hooks. But the tail bag I have is great and wasn't really affected by that. It has bungees already attached to it. The two that are towards the front of the bike I hooked on the passenger peg mounts. The other two I hooked together under the rear of the bike by the plate. This kept it from moving around. I do the same thing with my 650r that has a fender eliminator on it as well. My tail bag is the motocentric sport tail bag, and I LOVE IT!

I dunno how to do pix on here. But the exact same stuff I was talking about are in a thread about saddlebags also (soft saddlebags for ninja '09). There is a pic of a blue 250 with it (motocentric tail bag). Her long straps are attached like I did. She has a DIY fender eliminator and still has the hooks. But if u see her pic imagine the targa being flat where the tag is mounted. And I clipped the two hooks together, end to end. And that way there were no issues. I have pix on my phone of the tail bag. I also have motocentric magnetic tank bag. I loved it on my 250. It doesn't really work as well with my 650 because the shape of the tank is too narrow on the top.

Oh I see. You just attached the hooks to each other. Not to anything on the bike or the plate...

Correct, it keeps enough tension that it doesn't move or anything. Because the bungees built into the bag are in an x pattern so they stretch from left front to right rear. I have a pic on my phone of it on my 650. I can email it if u want. I just don't know how to post pix on here especially from my iPad. But the bag is big and is expandable. In its closed state it can hold a spare visor and my MacBook pro and iPad along with cables and a pair of shorts for work.
