I definitely like it better than the old style.

.....and its RED

I wonder why kawi has it designed with flush mount front blinkers and not the back ?

Probably something to do with legal requirements for distances apart, they can fit them on the front fairings but the back is skinnier.

Gixxers have them fairly widely spaced in the tail, off the top of my head I cant think of many others with flushmount rear indos (RSV Mille, & probably some other exotica)

what's keeping you from going over 4k rpm? (please don't mention a sticker that's remained unchanged for over 30 years & countless models...)

Sweet bike, almost got my hands on one but someone snatched it out from underneath me the day before I went to buy it. Ended up with a gixxer 750 somehow... put some sportsbars on that bike and you will love it!

Luv the new look of the '12 650's, but if that twin vibrates as much as the 250

I see you opted for the slower red version, some people simply cannot handle the immense speed of the black ninjas but it is still a fine machine. Have fun!

Break-in period, the mechanic at the dealer said not to go over 4k RPM for the first 600 miles. It's not fun going 55 mph on the freeway while all these cars are zooming past me lol 500 more miles to go!

Thanks everyone for the comments. Even though some of you are quite uninformed, but we all truly know that Red is the fastest color.

The directions given to you are not the most effective way to break in an engine, it's been the same advice on every kwak since at least the early 80s, from KLR 250s, to ZX-10s to Vulcans.

You need to put more pressure on it to brake it in properly, don't let it sit at idle too long or hold it on redline but vary the RPM from low to high & back down & back up.

Most of the break in is done within a couple of miles anyway.
How much CNC milling was done in the 80s? why follow a method that has not changed in 30 years, despite the advances in engineering technology?

I honestly believe there's one they put the sticker on it, to give riders a chance to get used to the new machine without wringing it's neck.

i was thinking of the same thing, its probably to prevent new riders from crashing more than actual break in.

when he goes to sell it, he will probably put in the ad "proper break-in period followed."

idk, i just followed the break-in instructions too when i had the 250. i figured better safe than sorry, especially since i was planning on keeping the bike for a long time... but it did seem a bit overkill.

my honda's break-in said no full throttle starts or rapid acceleration for the first 300 miles. to me, that made more sense.

oh, btw sweet bike nst416.

oh, i didn't realize that was you and your bikes in the video. oops. lol

yeah, i don't know... the break-in period is kind of one of those AR-15 vs AK-47, or Ford vs Chevy things.

i follow the break-in, i love both rifles for different situations, Ford definitely wins!

back on topic, if the 650 looked like that when i was in the market for a 250 replacement, i would have definitely bought one.

How do you like the adjustable windscreen? I'm torn between ultra-useful and gimmicky.

Not sure about the 650 but I hear it's very functional on the bigger brother Ninja 1000. Same design I believe.

Congrats! I love mine. Plenty of power for me and very comfortable. I just wish somebody made some damn frame sliders for it! I think you can order them from Thailand or something, but not sure I want to do that. I read a ton of posts all over the web about engine break in. I ended up making sure I varied the engine speed as much as practical and staying out of the upper rpm's. I was aware of the 4K limit, but I didn't worry about occasionally passing it. I just made sure I didn't push it. There's conflicting opinions out there about break in. Some people even say you SHOULD bring the engine into the high rpm range during that time.... I don't know about that, but I certainly don't think it would be wrong to follow the manufacturer's guidelines. Many happy miles!
