WE’RE still waiting for Yamaha to bring the YZF-R25 to the UK but already there's a spy shot purporting to show a naked ‘MT-25’ version.

The image, published on Indian bike websites, supposedly shows the MT-25 undergoing tests. However, some commentators are saying it's just an MT-07, and from the grainy picture that can't be ruled out.

Yamaha has already launched the MT-125 based on the YZF-R125, so it would make sense to use the R25 as a platform to further expand the MT range.

The R25 went on sale in Asian markets in July. The quarter-litre sports bike makes 35.5hp and 16.7lbft from a parallel-twin 249cc engine. It’s thought a 300cc ‘YZF-R3’ version will be launched in Europe, to compete with Kawasaki’s Ninja 300, but Yamaha has yet to confirm plans.

In that case, a European market MT based on the same platform would almost certainly be 300cc too. It would sit between the MT-125 and bigger MT-07 and MT-09 in the naked bike range.
