Finished my MSF today
And scored a perfect score on the driving test!
Woo! I also found out that the coaches don't like to use the Ninja 250 for training, they keep it in the back of the trailer and don't let students use it because it's "tempermental"...haha. They actually said they were selling it, it's in great condition..with the exception of a duct taped headlight. I might see how much they want for it. More to come later! |

congrats! be safe and have fun. how strange that they say its temperamental? at my msf they had 3 pregens and said they were the best bikes they'd used so far. the rest were kx125s and rebels. (i used the kx for the test)

The instructor said they didn't really like it for a basic MSF learner since it had a lot of potential-a high performance motorcycle he called it. He said something about the front brake sending someone into the ground-dunno...but the way they teach you to emergency brake is to grab a hand-full of the brake, I could see that being a problem on the pre-gen.
The bikes were all tiny cruisers or standards. I was on a Nighthawk, there were some Rebels, Suzuki GZ250 (nice bike), a few others I cant remember- and two Yamaha 200cc dual-sports. All the instructors rode Harleys. |

I took the MSF on the ninjette, and it was interesting to see the other students actually RECOIL from the thought of riding a sportbike, while I was chomping at the bit to learn on it. The instructor did give me a speech about braking being sensitive, but I couldn't have been happier as I was already looking into used pre-gens at the time...

Congratulations!
I was lucky to be assigned to the only 08 250R during my MSF class. As the instructor put it during the emergency brake portion of the class, out of the all the bikes they had, the brakes on the 250R were "bitchin'". I just put faith in what he said and trusted the bike to do its things from then on and voilà, the bike came to a perfect stop on my next emergency brake run. |

Kelly, They also had some of those during my MSF last year. They're good for the tall guys since the rebels and nighthawks are really bad for anyone with average/long legs. I had problems with riding my rebel. They kept telling me to grip the tank with my legs, but then the handle bars would mash my knee preventing me from doing full locks. After a while, they told me to swing my knee out when turning. Not really easy to do when you're already in the Gyno position.

Congratulations!
I took my MSF classes on a 2002 ish Ninja 250. The instructor told the class that the bike was harder to ride than the cruisers but will make a really good rider out of you. I got there early just to snag the Ninja. Didn't really have to as I think the other students shy-ed away from the little sport bike. No one rode the Buell Blast that was available. Jeff

Yeah, I wish I had been able to use their 250 since I had to get use to my bike this week. After driving the Nighthawk all weekend, it was a little strange getting on the Ninja.

I took my MSF course (last fall) on a Yamaha V Star 250. They would not let us use our own bikes (I guess that's how it is everywhere). I loved the course, but not being able to learn on what I wanted to ride was a disappointment. I didn't pass with a perfect score - but I was the oldest student and took the test in the pouring down rain!
Congratulations to you for getting a perfect score!!! That is awesome! |

Thanks for all the congratulations, I was proud of having the score I did...it was a long weekend!
Yeah, we couldn't use our own bikes for the BRC, but for the Experienced Rider Course they have you use your own bike...it's a one day course that expands on what was learned in the BRC. I'll probably take it next summer, after I get some solid riding down. |
