ugh. too many problems to list. electrical/wiring issues, frame issues, fork issues, the steering stem head bolt loose.

all nuts and bolts sorted and accounted for. it may look like a mess but it's organized and every thing has a few pictures of it coming off

i painted the frame today... flat black. looks about a million times better

my process was clean it for about 6 hours, tape off everything important, clean it some more, grind away rust/broken welds, reweld, grind, clean some more, sand surface (i was lazy and used my grinder with a steel brush. not as nice of results, about 20 times faster, clean more, spray with some cheesy rattlecans.

if you hadn't noticed, the important part is cleaning.

the shims are the same size as the ninja so both bikes will be getting valve jobs next week.

i also picked up a big bucket of polyester resin, loose fiberglass, expanding foam, and some new paint brushes. this is for a new tail, and two new seats. still need to go pick up the vinyl to make seat covers

the plan is to build a new detachable seat frame in half inch aluminum tube modeled after the triumph daytona seat frame. it will be powder coated gloss black. the fiberglass body work will be white and the seats will be black with white trim.

... maybe i splurged too much ...

(that's what she said)

the tank is going to be a little work to get on. need to find out if my fuel pump and petcock and gas cap will work with it. its got emission crap on there that the fzr doesnt have so i think il need to plug those up. im going to have to weld up a bottom mount since the old fzr tank mounts are on the side. the top of it will mount to the old head fairing stay. should be MUCH better than the crappy old wobbly tank and unattached tank fairing. downside is that my crappy stock airbox wont fit with the new tank so ill be forced to fix it (not really a down side) which means pod filter and a jets are in my immediate future. also my current tach gauge setup will have to go (i wont miss it)

the shock should be easier to mount. the top bearing race needs to be bored out 2mm. but it is rusted and seized though, so i may need to do some... reconstructive surgury... also i might need to cut the dogbones and extend them or just make them adjustable. the fzr crowd seems to be fond of the cut-and-weld-on-a-bolt-and-nut method so if it works for them it will probably work for me.

oh yeah i forgot to mention i got another mini-cooper bixenon projector for free... just need a ballast and hid and i will mount it on the fzr and replace the front piece with something a little more custom. once i get around to it i will mold out a shape to go around the projector and fiberglass it and use some acrylic to make a little wind screen.
