Helmet Safety Standards
Here is a great article (a bit long though) I found on another site regarding Helmet Safety Standards. I thought it was iteresting to see how a more expensive helmet isn't necessarily a safer one. The extra cost is more for graphics, venting and overall comfort.

That article was accurate when written, but has become a bit out of date. Snell has released a new standard (M2010) that new helmets are being designed to, which brings it much more inline with the other helmet standards around the world. There was an update on this in the current month of Motorcyclist, talking about the new standard and taking a little credit for its maturation. The takeaway from the article is mainly that for folks with smaller heads, making sure to get a M2010 helmet as soon as it is released could be a good idea; while those with larger heads would not have much of a difference between the older standard and the newer one.
Anyway, more info in these threads: Thread 1 Thread 2 EDIT: Looks like I took to long to hit "post".
