Stockton Ninjetters ride the Sierra foothills
...Well, at least 2 of us did! This meet up was by invitation of @iamjacob. He is officially the first Ninjette forum member I have met in person. For the record, he is a great guy and a solid rider (a much better rider than me ).
We rode from Stockton, CA up Hwy 88 to Jackson, then down Hwy 49 to Angels Camp, and back via Hwy 4. A mere 132 miles. This is the best time to tour the foothills, as everything is still green, and the golden California poppies are in bloom. Some of the views were breathtaking. I took a couple of pictures. Jacob had a brief instant of excitement when he met a bird face-to-face at 60 MPH! Missed it by that much...

I have to say that the ride was super fun, green hills, perfect temps, great company.
Tim is also the first ninjetter that I've met in person and I can only hope that every other one will be as nice. The only bummer of the day is what I found when I got home.... Yup, that's right a freakin' nail in by brand new BT45. It only has 600 miles on it Can't wait for the next ride. |

Ouch! Not good. Thank God for sticky plugs.
On the bright side; A) you made it home with air in the tire. B) that bird didn't get to perform a ballistics test on your visor.

Dang! I wish I could have made it. 49 between Jackson and Angels Camp is a great road to ride. How was traffic on 88? It seems to get a lot of casino traffic on the weekends. If I ride 88 on weekends I usually take as many back roads as I can to avoid much of it. Too many people in a big hurry to lose their money!

Funny you should ask. About 9 cars out of ten turned left when we reached the road to the casino. Good riddance! We flew past the line of suckers and on to Jackson.
Traffic was moderate on 49, but even the slow people were often besting the speed limit. All mountain (and coastal!) roads are best savored on a weekday. I am still available during the week if you ever want company on the road. Have bike, will travel...

It always happens to new tires! As punctures go, that one looks to be in just about the perfect place to be plugged securely.

@misfitsailor, I agree about tourist free weekdays being the best time to ride the coast or mountain roads, with the exception of one thing. Living where we do, we have to pass through lots of commuter traffic just to get near the coast and mountains on weekdays. On weekday rides I always leave Stockton mid morning to avoid at least some of it. The foothill towns are full of commuters heading towards the valley, and valley commuters are heading towards the Bay Area. Being centrally located like we are is nice as everything is in range, but it can backfire on us too. Ever seen westbound traffic coming out of Valley Springs on two lane Hwy 26 in the A.M.? It might as well be a Los Angeles freeway. Even obscure back roads like Patterson Pass Rd between Tracy and Livermore are crazy. It's only about a lane and a half wide, very narrow and crooked, yet bumper to bumper to bumper. Commuters scare the hell out of me. Either they're in a mad tail gating unsafe passing rush, or they're driving like inattentive sleep deprived zombies.
