Tire size stores etc

Hey guys I'm going to change the tires on my 250 pretty soon as some know I got it and it had 20 miles on it but it sat for about a decade in a barn and there are little bit of small cracks on the tires but they hold they hold air and everything should I be worried riding it I plan on changing them out soon I was wondering about what the sizes are I've seen some say 17 some say 16 it's a 2000 250 r or ex don't know the difference any input on good places to buy them would be a big help and was wondering if I can widen the back tire? Those Shinkos are darn good! Too bad they're not $49 any more like when they 1st came out. I use them on my 2002, but in 17" after my conversion.

Helps to leave tyres out in sun to soften up. I use tyre-warmers for 15-min. Then big C-clamp to break bead off rim. Squirt some soapy water to slide them off & on. Easier than
bicycle tyres because you don't have to worry about a tube you might pinch and puncture.

I have big C-clamp so I can do everything in pits. That was back in early days. Now I just have 2nd set of wheels.

Was really handy last weekend at my 1st time out at Wild Horse Pass. After 2-practice sessions and 1st race, I needed new tyres for 2 more races after lunch due to rough surface. These Alpha 13-SP tyres usually lasts me an entire season of +40 days @ track too!

Thanks everyone been thinking about multiple styles I was thinking about putting some off road dirt bike type tires I live down a 2 mile dirt gravel road so grippy tires would be nice anyone ever try them?

I had some problems finding any kind of selection for 16" tires. Someone here suggested Michelin City Grips (scooter tires as a matter of fact) and I went with them. They have been great.

My scrambler 250 is rolling on KENDA K761 tires. They might be hard to find in 16s, and I’m running 130/90 front and rear, but they might be worth a look. V rubber also used to make 16 inch dual sport tires.

I'd like to see a picture of 130's front and rear. Did you use the stock front rim? fender Mods? I wanted to use a 120 but was afraid it would too big for the rim and not fit the forks?. I'm building a 250 scrambler too

I used the original front wheel. I went with a different fender. You can do 120 and still use the original fender mounts, but 130 gets very tricky.

I didn’t want to make another thread since this talks about tire size but what is required if say you wanted to move to a 17” tire? I assume it would also lower the acceleration and top speed also while reading lower on the speedometer.

If you wanted to run 17 inch tires, you would need to swap over to new gen 17 inch wheels. There is a thread about how and what all you would need.

As for top speed and acceleration, that would depend on tire width and aspect ratio. A 17 inch 140/60-17 vs the stock 120/80-16 are near identical sizes. So if you stick to a tire the same size, all should be the same. Just a wider flatter tire.

Yea there’s a few ways to do it already posted here but I went with the new gen front and rear end. I’m here if you plan on goin down that route.
