Angry Bad acceleration in 5th/6th gear

I'm new to this thread but I bought this 2011 ninja 250 from someone awhile back but they didn't take good care of it and let it sit, ive cleaned the carbs and change the plugs and oil and oil filter and tuned the carbs but even then whenver im in 5th or 6th gear the rpms hardly move up even with the throttle fully open and im barely getting past 50mph ive only hit 60 twice but that was downhill but Idk it has a leo Vince Exaust idk if that could be the cause ive tried putting a bigger back sprocket on so it went from a 45t to a 47t slight improvement but not much. Has anyone else had this problem or any idea how to fix it?

Hello Elias, welcome! I assume that both exhaust pipes are getting hot equally quickly when you start it. If both cylinders are firing, it's almost certain that the carburetors are not fully clean. This will give you an idea of what needs to be cleaned: https://n4mwd.blogspot.com/2013/10/s...-passages.html

If at some point you decide to find a pro to restore them to new condition, the man is "Ducatiman" on this board.

Barely hitting 50 mph on level ground is way down on power. It's possible there is a carb issue, and it's also possible that it's only firing on one cylinder. You can check that by using one of those infrared temp guns right on the two exhaust pipes coming out of the the cylinder head right after you've been riding it for a few minutes. The temps of both should be quite similar if both cylinders are behaving.

Congrats Elias! My 2005 tops out at about 94mph per my GPS... they'll move with enough open road and a little tailwind

MoVal, eh? I'm in RivCo as well: Murrieta, but I work in Hemet. Maybe I'll see you around.

hehe Yah... my first thought was it wasn't running on both cylinders !
if that happens it is slow on acceleration ...really slow, and top speed is around 50mph ! the odd thing is it doesn't sound like it's running only on 1 cylinder
until you hear it running on 2 cylinders !!!!! there is no comparison but if you've never heard it running on 2 you wouldn't know ! one of the disadvantages of buying a used bike ! You don't know !
....
when I first got my 250R running it sounded ok to me but it wasn't running right ...and I knew that... but I took it for a short ride around the block anyway
and when I shifted into 3rd gear the 2nd cylinder kicked in and it took off like a rocket ! then I could tell the thing was running on 1 cylinder near idle....
...3 attempts at carb cleaning later and I finally got it to run fairly decent.
they are the most difficult carbs to clean I have ever came across !
.... this little bike is a rocket ! it goes like a 650 of my youth used to ! don't let the 250cc size fool you it's a big bike in a small package ! and it WILL get you into trouble !
....Ride safe !
Bob........
