I will say most of my knowledge of motorcycle mechanics have come from these ninjas even though I had owned many bikes before. So far my only "mods" are the rear fender/turn signals the cush drive shims, washers on my needles and the battery box mod. I'd be curious to hear if I missed any obvious ones.

Yeah, That's what I am talking about! I have done all of those except shimming the cush drive. I am mostly interested in stiffening up the suspension. I would really like to get a 300, but those things are SO hard to find a deal on. I absolutely WILL NOT pay retail for a vehicle.

Buy the 300 shock it's 50 times better than the pregen

Has:

- preload adjustment
- stiffer spring for riders heavier than 135-lbs
- stiffer damping for better control

Yeah. It's the first thing I would do if I were to buy another pregen. It's like riding a new bike and thanks to the trusty center stand it only takes about a half hour even if you suck at using tools like I do.

I believe that Motion Pro also makes a tool that is basically what you describe. A ~1 liter bottle that you fill with gas and hang up somewhere to get the engine running without the fuel tank in the way. It's meant to be used for syncing carbs and such.

You can also just use a really long hose and put the actual fuel tank on a table or something next to the bike, which has the advantage of costing almost nothing, vs like $100 for the fancy Motion Pro bottle.

Here's something I made out of a Brakleen airisol can. I simply drilled-out the fitting for the spray nozzle and soldered in a brass fitting.

Thanks guys. I thought it was something moderately common. I just have a completely dry gas tank and didn't want to put gas in it just to have it go bad. As you can tell by the age of this thread it takes me a long time to do things.

How bad is too bad for diaphragms? It has a bit of deformation. Looks fine just a bit wavy in one spot. I tried to photograph it, obviously it was impossible.

You're gonna need:

- heavier-duty industrial chemicals than you've been using
- ultrasonic cleaner
- soda-blasting equipment for small parts
- decades of experience on thousands of carbs

I'm just shooting for close. So far they have been pinesol soaked and blasted with carb cleaner with a toothbrush for the really caked on stuff. This rack of carburetors will most likely be sitting indefinitely as a spare. I want them cleaned just about as good as they can get to prevent any sort of rust or degradation. Has anyone tried those cheap amazon ultrasonic cleaners? Looking at 6 liters but my tool wish list is so long.

That's constant 12 volts normally not connected to anything.

Thanks, I figured it was headlight related but I must have messed something else up as far as that goes...

Good news everyone, the 95 does run BUT I'm leaking from my float bowls (I think). That and some other odds and ends and we should be riding once I get some new rubber and the light situation figured out.

My understanding is that the carbs are the same, just jetted differently.

Good fixes for coolant leaks?? The outside hardline that goes from my radiator to the water pump is leaking where it connects to the pump. I replaced that o-ring with a non oem one with the same fit. I put some regular non hardening gasket maker on after that failed me in a fairly significant bead behind the o-ring, worked until the engine got hot and then didnt. Next someone at work suggested "blue monster" not it's real name but allegedly "if that doesn't work, you're effed." Another non hardening gasket compound, with the same result. I'm tired of draining my cooling system if anyone has a better suggestion. Might try and find a thicker smaller diameter o-ring that will fit more snugly also might try a double o-ring, one in the groove and a bit wider one after the groove. All input welcome, especially why I shouldn't do that, because it seems wrong.

Dump the "O" ring altogether. Go to your auto parts store and buy some Fel Pro gasket material. I think Autozone might have some. While you're there pick-up a small can of Permatex High Tack gasket sealer. Make you own gasket, apply the High Tack to both mating surfaces and both sides of the home made gasket. Done deal. I did this in several places on my 82' Honda FT500 Ascot. Works well.

Cheers,

Bill

I think you should just break down and get the correct o-ring from the dealer - no sealant required.

Did you clean the opening to remove any corrosion? If not cleaned well it will leak. It needs to be smooth and clean.

I'd try another (preferably correct) o-ring with a dab of silicone lube (not caulk) from the plumbing department.

I've replaced leaking coolant seals before, and never needed any additional sealant if everything else is correct.

It's your money and time. Permatex High Tack brother. Stay away from that silicone rubber crap unless your trying to seal the timing chain cover to oil pan on a big or small block Chevy. By the way the Permatex cleans-up with lacquer thinner. I've used it to seal the cylinder heads on a Kaw 500 triple (head gasket removed), the exhaust headers on most every motorcycle I've ever owned.

Ya, the stuff I'm taking about isn't a caulk or sealer - just a lube. Just something to help it slide into place without snagging the seal. Some people like to use KY Jelly, if you have that on hand...

Unless there are major problems you should be able to get it to seal with the proper o-ring and a clean surface.

Heck I just spray the tube and o-ring with silicone spray. I would make sure to install the water pump side 1st and make sure it is seated properly then attach the radiator side making sure the water pump side stays seated properly.

Hey KY Jelly! What temperature is is with able to withstand? I've gotten it pretty hot before but never measured it. A friend of mine asked if I smoked after sex, I told him that I didn't know because I never looked.

So when my girlfriend asks why I have a bottle of KY jelly in my tool box I'm coming to you for backup.

It stopped leaking for now, no drips at all when I parked this afternoon. I drained the water out and put real coolant in so we will see if that eats away at whatever blue goop we used to seal it. My next checklist item is troubleshooting my headlight. How about fairing stays? Would it be better to buy straight ones or should I try my luck at bending the ones I have???

When I bought my 07' Ninja a year ago I tore it apart undoing what damage the previous owner did and performing the maintenance he didn't. When I went to install the upper fairing I was having fits - the bolt holes didn't line up. I then realized that I bought a wrecked bike. At that point I realized that the upper fairing was bent from the crash. I bought a used straight one on eBay. I couldn't imagine trying to straighten out the upper fairing bracket. I guess it could be done with a torch and a jig to line it up but it was beyond my capabilities. The upper fairing bracket isn't easy to find since most squids usually smash-up the upper fairing and bracket.

Yeah, this was an MSF training bike, nothing straight about her.
