Stupid Noob Question - Gas
I understand the ninjette holds about 4 gallons, yet whenever I go to get gas I always seem to end up with just over 3/4 of a tank, no matter what point I add gas.
Is there a visual marker as to where I should be filling up to? I mean 3/4 isn't bad but sometimes it would be nice to be "topped off." If this isn't in the right forum I'm sorry. >.< |

Are you filling it up until it touches the metal piece? It's different than filling up a car where you can just let it click off when it thinks it's done. You need to hold the nozzle down while looking at the gas while it's filling, and only stop when it is truly full.
Here's a related thread ---> Link

To my understanding, the float (thus the gauge) isn't really accurate. It's just there for general idea. When the gauge says empty, you've got a little over a gallon left. If you really wanted, you could calibrate it better and bend the float down, but it probably isn't worth it.
Of course, this is assuming you fill to the little inserts lip in the tank, which is what I imagine most people do. I also feel like that gauge is most accurate when the bike is on it's kickstand. |

I was filling it up to a little below the metal piece so that might explain it. I know gas is pretty corrosive outside the tank so I just assumed it had to be below that point.

The whole tank is made out of that same material!
There is nothing to worry about, otherwise we'd all have been doing it wrong haha. |

so when's the good time to fill up the tank? since we can't really tell if it's really empty or not

My gauge seems pretty accurate. When it hits E I fill it up and its normally right around 4-4.2 gallons or 200-210 miles.
p.s. The tank isn't 4 gallons, its 4.8 gallons.

Nothing necessarily wrong with doing it that way, but it isn't a requirement either. The difference in how much can get in the tank (or how much will go out the overflow) from straight up and down to leaned over on the kickstand is minimal.
