quick question i am off for work about lifting front of the bike
I have the rear on the rear stand and i dont have the front stand never thought i would need it.Now i need to lift the front up so i can get the tire off.Is it safe to use a car jack and a piece of wood under where the shock backet is while on rear stand.I mean just long enought to slide front tire out then rest forks on blocks with wood underneath the forks..I dont want to be in the i drop my bike yet.I really dont want to be on here next week asking how to change a damae shock eithere.
Thanks guys |

while on rear stand, carjack on the oil filter cover on the bottom of the engine. put a piece of wood between so you dont jack up the paint. put some weight on the rear of the bike so it doesn't teeter

Car jack + wood under stock headers. If you have aftermarket headers, I might worry, but the stock steel headers are strong enough. Plus, the headers extend out below fairings on pretty much every bike, so no need to remove the fairings to worry about crushing them either
Here's a pic with my old GS500 done in this same fashion. Couldn't use my front fork-lift stand since the forks came out, obviously.

Please, please, please be careful with these methods. When lifting the front by the engine/headers, the bike is balancing on the engine pretty good. The bike can easily be knocked off the rear stand sideways due to this balancing act. I for one lift the front of the bike with a hoist from the triple tree plate. Lifting from here only plants the rear of the bike on the rear stand even more. Works perfect if you have a hoisting method.

from faq/ninja250.org
yes be careful when using these methods. Use a tie-down on each side of the triple and attach each of them to the rail for your garage door. Just take the slack out of them, don't actually make them carry weight. Weight is taken up by the car jack under the oil filter. The tie downs just stabilize the bike. |

You should really hang it from something but when I took my wheel off I wheeled it up on a piece of wood, put the rear on jack stands, put concrete blocks and boards under both forks and then yanked the board out from under the front wheel. Just make sure the steering is straight or it'll lean, I had someone hold it upright while I had the wheel off.
Not perfect but it was easy and it worked, next time I'll probably build something

well everthing is done.Did rear tire then front. Its pretty easy not hard at all.Myabe i was just luckly but the rear was np,i was thinking the whole time about trying to line everything up.I held everything up and my dad just slide the axle in with out any problem. The most time it took was trying to figure out how to lift this bike to sit it on something.I just pick the front end up by lifting from the rim while my dad moved the blocks under the forks(thanks guys) I would say all in all maybe 1h15 min. This is removal and install time only.

Just get new tires while you've got everything taken apart. The only thing you'll regret is not getting the new tires sooner

do it! you won't regret it!! Tires on the ninjette are the one "upgrade" that is actually an upgrade that helps the bike in all aspects. It's like a whole new bike. I can't believe I didn't change mine out the day I got the bike. I've heard the IRC's are better than the pregen Dunrocks, but still.

dont take off the tire to coat them unless new tires are being put on.Just think about labour cost alone. It would then cost as much as your tires
