Whining Noise on Deceleration

After taking a little slack out of my chain yesterday I'm noticing a very distinct whining sound under deceleration. Sounds like a bad bearing sort of. Could I have gotten to chain too tight, or the wheel out of alignment? I used a straight edge on the tire to measure the distance from each side to the lowering links. The two sides were within 2 mm of each other. The Chain slack seems within spec according to the owners manual.

Anything else I should check besides wheel alignment and chain tighness?

Sounds like the chain is too tight.

Make sure you find the tightest spot before setting the tension. A little too loose is better than a little too tight.

Here's a good video from Canyonchasers on the correct way to adjust the chain - http://www.canyonchasers.com/video/chain.php

It should not be a bad bearing if only happens during deceleration.

I would put some tension on the lower half of the chain by rotating the wheel (engine off- some clutch in) while in first gear and check if either the tensioned bottom or the hanging top of the chain rubs against some hard part (especially is the rear of the bike has been risen).

As mentioned above, it is important to find the proper slack for the tightest portion of the rotation of the wheel.

Im thinking its the chain since it happened right after you tensioned it.

If the chain is not lubed well it'll whine.

I took 1/2 a turn out of the adjusters, quick test ride down the rode and it seems fine. I think the noise might have been me putting it in first at a relatively high speed, I think that gear might be straight cut or it just noise. Will definitely clean/lube the chain soon as well though.

Wouldn't hurt to lube/adjust the clutch cable as well.

It's a better idea not to downshift into first until you are completely stopped or barely moving.
