Bolt with "7" and a Red Dot

Hi guys,

I'm in need of your collective expertise. The other day, I came home and noticed a bolt on the ground in my driveway... it has a "7" on the head - very similar to others in different locations throughout my 2009 Ninja 250. The only difference with this bolt is that it has a red dot/blob on top of the head. I can't help but conclude that this is from somewhere on my ninja!? I've looked around underneath the motorcycle and inside the fairings with a flashlight but didn't notice any obvious spots missing a bolt.

Does anyone happen to know where a bolt with a red-dotted 7 goes?

PS: I have ridden my motorcycle with this bolt off the bike (assuming it's from the bike); nothing seems to be out of the ordinary yet.

Thanks for your help!

Check out this thread. Someone lost the same bolt with a #7 on it. No, there's no joy at the end of that one either, but at least you can be happy that you're not the only one.

Thanks for the quick replies fellas! Some potential "7" locations in that first thread. I'll look into the headlight location as well

Sorry if it's answered in the linked thread (skimmed a bit, but didn't fully read it), but the 7 just stands for the grade of the steel the bolt is. Grade 8 is the highest commercial quality bolt which I believe only lowe's sells, but 7 is pretty good. I remember seeing white paint markings all over the bike, but don't remember seeing any red. The bolts holding the tank on do say 7 on them though.

I had my tank and seat off yesterday and noticed a bunch of those bolts. For instance: I think the bolts that hold the cross-piece that the tank bolts to is held by four of them. As far as the red dot, I THINK that is just a visual check from the factory, so I'm guessing it is for a slightly more important part..... but I'm just thinking aloud here.
