ZX600 shock

so i got a '88-'97 ZX600C: 45014-1367. shock
i got it installed and i put some air in it how much i am not sure.. just a little around 10psi is my guess
what i want to know is what the thing that turns and got 1-4 on it adjust??
i think its damping but is 1 most damping or least..
how much air should i have i am 200lbs and gf that rides 2up alot is 150lbs

I am pretty sure its dampening. and 1 is the lightest and 4 toughest
think someone figured out that 7psi was for 150lbs. so for every 7psi is 150lbs.

Hey guys quick ? I got new tires and a zx600 shock, since im putting on tire and removing them can I install the shock with the rear wheel off??
