Some ****ing twat hit my front tire, lost control of bike, lowsided, car drove off.

Bike isn't too badly damaged, a few ****ed up parts here and there. Fairings going to need to be replaced.

Replace the fairings with an R6

So uhm, care to elaborate more on your story? How, what, huh, when, and then, huh?

Totes going to replace the fairings with an R6. And sorry, when I made the post I was on the phone with the insurance company.

So, going around a circle going ~15MPH, car came out from one of the entrances to the circle, didn't see me, hit my front tire. I tried to slow down in order to avoid being hit.

Didn't matter, lost control of bike, dropped it on the right hand side. Hip, shoulder, arm are bruised, nothing too bad. I'll post some pictures of the bike later on when I'm not fuming.

Ouf, sounds similar to what happened in my incident (though at least the driver who went into me stopped). All these recent crashes are reminding me why practicing evasive maneuvers is so important.

Thinking about it right now... I guess I should have stood the bike up straight and just mashed the brakes, which I tried to do, just didn't have a lot of time to react.

You were in a roundabout right? If you had seen the guy sooner could you have maybe swerved inward to avoid him?

If I would have swerved more inward I would have fallen to the left, simply from leaning too much. It really doesn't help that in the middle of the circle there's a huge like, pillar so you can't see the other exits and entrances.

I've never been in a roundabout so I wouldn't know. Sounds like one of the worst places for evasive maneuvers

Hate to be the forum mom, but couldn't that be the problem -- it's like outrunning your headlights: maybe you should've been going slower (yes, I know it's less fun)?

Speed limit is 20 I think for the round about, I've driven it 100 times without incident, but alas. I guess you're right.

Definitely is, no room to move around, multiple people leaving / entering at once.

It was a hit and run, and I didn't get anything. By the time I got up all I saw was the bare ass end of the car about 300 yards away. And no, there weren't any security cameras.

Glad you escaped this one with minimum damage, Ryan !!

I have to ride through two roundabouts every weekday and know that cars failing to yield is the biggest danger.

Many cagers do it out of plain ignorance, others try to beat you and ignore the "yield" signs.

Normally, the speed limit adjusts more to the visibility and reaction time than to the radius of the circle.

Starting from time 102, keep an eye on the top of the front wheels of the oncoming cars; that will tell you what they are doing (slowing down or taking off) before it is too late for you to react.

Best !

I did actually, however the police didn't seem too interested in it. I gave them the number, regardless, and spoke to them afterwards to tell them I gave their number to the police in case anything comes up.

The police usually aren't concerned unless its the actual person that caused the wreck.

Getting that info will help your adjuster rule in your favor.

I was wearing my jacket, luckily. When I get to work today, I'll post some pictures, but these come to mind right now -

Right Fairing
Right Front Brake Lever
Right Rear Brake Lever

+ more.

Okay so here's the deal;

My insurance company called today, and told me that most likely my bike was going to be a 'total loss', after I described the damage to them.

Does this mean that they'll be cutting me a check for whatever the bike is worth + gear?

pretty much, the deductible will be subtracted from the estimate.

did you have any aftermarket stuff installed?
i would try to claim it separately as well, if it was damaged.

if the wheel is not damaged i would try to buy it back and fix it with fairings from ebay.

Every time I drive through a roundabout with my wife in the car, she comments about how ****ing dangerous they are. On my bike, I guess avoiding them might be a good idea.

well if he was going 15mph in a 20mph..you can't say he should go slower..might as well not ride at all, just stop get off your bike, push it across, and then get back on...

that really does suck. I almost feel as if the insurance people are trained to say "your bike will be a total loss" so you might be scared to continue the claim. Though these things aren't worth much, so maybe theyre absolutely just too easy to total.

just get the adjuster to check it out, they will cut you a check for what ever damages you have that they can see. if it is just fairing damage it shouldnt be a total loss. and if your gear got damaged be sure to mention it or they wont compensate you at all for that stuff

Honestly, if the bike is a total loss they'll just cut me a check for actual value of the bike. I've paid off probably about $500 so far, (I've only had it for 3 months) so HOPEFULLY I'd come out about $500 ahead, plus a check for new gear.

Essentially, I could just go get another loan and get a new bike (R1 for sure).

Does this sound accurate to you guys or am I a ****tard?

2012 ninja right? I'll let you know what happened to me. My 2011 ninja 250 with 13k miles crashed in apr 2012. Claims adjuster totaled it and went to research the price of a 2011 ninja 250. He checked like autotrader or something, there was only one 2011 250 listed for $3,999 so they cut me a check for that plus tax. If you paid dealer fees, don't expect to get that back. Don't expect to get a craigslist price, expect to get MSRP
