Dual Sport Suggestions

Hey folks,
I find myself wanting a dual-purpose motorcycle and I wonder what everyone has to say on the subject.

I have heard very good things about the Kawasaki KL 650. Great all around bike.

Suzuki DRZ 400, plenty of support out for it. You can turn it into a supermoto easily with a set of wheels and big brake kit.

I've had a 350 and my friend has the 650. Not a very good dirt bike (for the way I like to ride), not a very good street bike (for the way I like to ride).

I have ridden the KLRs and DRs. They are all great, reliable bikes. I would see if you can get out and ride one before you buy, if possible. I have ridden Dual sports from 150-650cc and I have to admit, I think my Favorites were the older DR350. Great combo of power and weight. FUN bike.

Two of my friends just bought Suzuki SV 650s--a great dual sport. Dual sports tend to be a little on the tall side. With a 30" inseam, the majority of those machines are not a fit for me. Nice to see the South Vietnamese Flag again. I spent 15 months there as a medic and graduated from the Vietnamese Ranger School in NhaTrang. Those Vietnamese Rangers were great guys and tough as nails. It was a priviledge serving with them---also some great memories.

I'm hoping to eventually get a DRZ and make it into a super moto.

Did you mean the V-Strom 650? I like that bike, although they are rarely for sale around here. And I hope seeing the flag brings you good memories and hope. "Unity and Freedom"

I think the main appeal of a super moto to me is modifying a dual sport into one.

Truong, You are absolutely correct--V-Strom 650. I believe that Friend and Friend in Ellsworth and Orono have some. "Unity and Freedom" Indeed! Very good memories and certainly no regrets. I always felt that I was defending both flags (Countries) US and Vietnam. Hope? Yes. It happened in Germany and to a great degree in Ireland. Everything is possible.

The great thing about Suzuki DR350s is that they can be found pretty cheap. I love mine, just a blast on goat trails. Haven't done much dirt 'cause there's not much near me.

I always get a kick out of people coming up to me and asking what size engine it is. The "350" stickers are pretty loud. I love it.
