Exhaust

Guys, I want to buy an exhaust for my 09 250 but I don't want to spend a grip of money. What do you recomend? I really like the GXSR I think that's what it's called.

GXSR exhaust is a good option, but requires quite a bit of work. You could also modify your stock exhaust to make it sound more "beefier".

I got it from their Ebay store but its all the same, sadly now they are not charging for shipping lol figures so its even less I payed 289, the install was really easy, just take off the shroud plate, unbolt the exhaust it slips off, slip on the elbow, the exhaust bolt it up again and done, took about 20 min, well there was the added 35 cents at home depot for a longer bolt, the one they sent was a little short for my taste.

here is a pic of it on mine.

I would say ask them, they are based in cali and should know if it legal or not. if its not they I would say go with the 2 brothers model it has a baffle that quiets it down.

Technically..... yeah I believe so. Exceeds noise levels for street legal. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

There's a difference between what is legal, and what is enforced. To my knowledge, it's a federal law that defines much of this, not state. If the exhaust component isn't stamped by the EPA (just like all stock exhausts are, look for it), it's illegal to use on the public roads, anywhere in the US. It's not about stock vs. aftermarket, it's about the manufacturer (of the bike or the exhaust) going through the process to get EPA certification.

I believe there are a few exhaust manufacturers who have gone to the trouble to get EPA certification for a select few of their products. Here's one that Vance & Hines offers for Harleys, for example:

http://www.vanceandhines.com/product...twinslash.html

But the vast majority of aftermarket exhausts, and by vast majority you can read 99.8%+, aren't legal for public roads, if anyone took the time to enforce existing laws. As you state, the enforcement of those laws varies widely from state to state and even jurisdiction to jurisdiction.

Alex this is true, but then I don't think there is an EPA approved aftermarket exhaust, I just looked at the cherry bombs on my truck and they are not stamped, and neither are the flow masters on my mom's mustang. but then I wonder if its not like the old tags on your bed or pillow, where it says "under penalty of law do not remove this tag" lol

Alex was referring to the EPA requirement that Motorcycle exhausts have the stamp, not your auto. Refer to your MOM (owner's manual, not your Mother) and check out the print on your OEM muffler!

No I understand that, I also know that the owners manual for my truck has almost the same things being a violation of federal law to alter the exhaust or emission controls. But the other thing is like Alex said enforcement, here in New Mexico they won't check your exhaust system because your running too loud or whatever, but in Cali they will I was with my cousin we got pulled over in his Honda civic and they literally made him pop the hood and they checked for racing gear, then they measured his height from the street and gave him a ticket for having decals on his windows (he moved from here to San Diego here his car was legal, there he has had to remove lots of aftermarket stuff) Its all in how its enforced.

I'm also not sure but I think you're correct on the legal thing. Yet still I've come across ppl using it.
