You can train a cat. However it's different from a dog. A dog's mentality is to listen to it's leader and do what they are told (this is part of the wolf pack mentality they still have in them). A cat on the other hand is a solitary type of animal that doesn't have a pack and therefore doesn't have a leader to follow. So you have to convince them to do something they would normally do on their own but to do it when you want them to. Not an easy task since a cat is far more independent than a dog. This in no way shape or form makes them any less intelligent.

I have found cats to be independent problem solvers that will try and figure things out on their own, even if you'd rather they didn't, lol.

My neighborhood cats are fond of me! I call them and they almost always come up to me purring and rubbing against my feet/legs.
