High Idle at 4500rpm after cleaning carbs
New at all this and looking for some direction.
Just bought this 2007 250R, but bike would not run without the choke. So I have removed and cleaned the carbs and now it runs with out the choke, but Runs at high idle 4500rpm. The bike is stock with 2400 miles on it. Turning idle speed screw counterclockwise will not lower rpm's. When carbs where removed, I also took out the idle mixture plugs and turned the screws in to see current setting, which was 2 turns, and screwed them out to 2.5 turns, as I have read many people suggesting. I havent sync'd the carbs yet, but did visually sync them with a feeler gauge. Looking for suggestions on what I might have screwed up and where to look next. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. |

Thanks for the feedback.. I will check that tomorrow night when I work on her again. I was just sooo happy when she fired up and ran without choke after the carb cleaining, until I realized my high idle condition. LOL
Maybe I adjusted the throttle cable too tight upon reassembly and that is keeping the butterfly vaive open, but I thought the return throttle cable would make sure the throttle valve returns to start position. Oh well, big learning curve here for me. It is great to have some nice folks to help talk thru all this. I will update tomorrow nite. thnxs. |

the two (top and bottom) adjuster nuts on both the push and pull cable are the ones your looking for. the bottom one determines where the top adjuster stops.

if you turn your bars left and right the idle should not rise. If so I'd say your cable is tight

Thanks to all.... After I loosened up the throttle cables, she was able to idle nornally. Still need to sync the carbs, but she is purring at 1300 rpm's like she should be. Appreciated the help.
