150 tires

Just installed my bridgestone bt016's today that I got from racebikerentals, the handling has so much improved, not sure why people were telling me over at wera that it was a stupid idea and didn't know why I wanted to do it. I actually noticed it as soon as I was pulling out the drive way lol.

Good mod

I'll try to take some pictures later and put them up maybe tomorrow

Good to hear that they worked out for ya. When it comes to this bike careful not to listen to the naysayers. This bike will surprise you.

I rode for a whole pile of miles today with paterick408, who also just mounted a set of Richard's 016's f/r on his ninjette. I was surprised, the 150 rear tire looked much less pinched on the rim than I would have expected, and in fact looks much narrower than the 150 width tires I've seen pictured online. He had no issues keeping a fast street pace, and says that it feels better to him than his previous (stock) tires when leaned over.

I'd be very interested to hear how things wear on them, I know that was one of the knocks against the 090's and some other radials squeezed onto the rear rim. Hopeful the folks with these 016's will keep track of what kind of mileage they are getting out of them, any weird wear patterns, or anything else that would help other folks make a tire decision.

I'm eager for the Bridgestone 003RS's to become more widely available, as they are going to offer 110/70/17 fronts and 140/70/17 rears, which should work even better than the 150/70/17 016's. The 003's will have a stickier compound than the 016's, and the 140 width means the profile on our rim is even closer to what the tire is designed for.

I have a 150/60/17, what difference is that than the 70, bc it also feels like I'm sitting up a lil higher.

Your 60 wouldn't be as tall as his 70. The first number is the width of your tire. The second number is a percentage of the first number and is the height of the tire. Your tire being a 150/60 17 means that the height of your tire is 60% of 150mm (90mm). His tire being 150/70 17 means the height of his tire is 70% of 150mm (105mm). These numbers aren't exact, as tires with same numbers but from different mfgrs can be slightly different in actual size. The taller tire will have a rounder profile and will lean over easier.

Was "rounder" ok or should I have typed "more round?"

Rocknroll is correct... the 150/60 is a bit shorter than the 140/70. So, it will change your gearing slightly. I equate it to adding about 1, possibly 1.5 teeth to your rear sprocket. I'm able to pull my competitors up some long hills, where gearing is at a premium, although I am into the rev limiter in 6th gear slightly before them.

Oh yeah. I heard about these 003s coming in a 140/70 now. I'm guessing they won't last as long as the 016s, but may have a comparable tire life to the 009s or less? Anyone know?

I doubt anyone's going to know yet as nobody has the 003RS's on the street yet. Broom runs the 003's on his racebike as they've been out for awhile, but that compound is going to be a little different than the 003RS version and his wear stats from the track aren't directly comparable...

Looks like the 003RS's are now in stock and available at MotorcycleSuperstore.com in the sizes we're looking for. 110/70/17 f and 140/70/17 rear. $102 F / $114 R.

Someone's got to be the first person to try these and report back, but I'm not due for new tires for a short while at least...

I have em on my Aprilia RS250 racebike & used them last weekend at Willow Springs. They seem to be an excellent tire. I have no doubts they will work well on the street, but probably won't last very long.

This is the same reason I changed my stock IRCs to Bridgestone Battlax BT-021s in 150/70-17 and 120/70-17. I wanted wider and better gripping and I got both. The only drawback is that there is precious little clearance on the swingarm now, but the bike handles distinctly better and looks sooooo much sexier. A vast improvement in all areas in my opinion.

I understand why you would want a grippier tire...but why did you wanna go wider?

Does anybody know if all 150/60/17 tires fit the ninja? I know Ive seen the bt090 bt016 and others but I was just curious if all 150/60/17 would fit.
