back and chest protectors

since you guys are all about ATGATT what back and chest protectors do your use and why.

i dont think chest protectors are common on the street but back protectors are great. they will save your life/limb

I don't wear protectors around town, but if I traverse long distance or go to the track, I wear a back protector at the very least. I don't own a chest protector, and it would probably be a wise investment. Regardless, I use a Knox Contour Race because I had heard lots of good things about it and really didn't know any better. It's CE Level 2 Rated, which really should be a must for anyone looking at a back protector. Like I said, though, I only wear it if I'm hitting the highway for a long time or at the track.

I'm about to make the purchase on a chest/back protector tomorrow and I am pretty sure I'm going to get the Knox Gilet Air vest. Only thing thats troubling me is the fact that there is no tailbone protection on the vest. Is this a problem for going to the track? I don't feel comfortable spending the money knowing my tailbone will be unprotected. I know knox sells padded shorts to supplement these but its much more expensive to add that to the cost than buy a different vest that includes the tailbone protection. Anyone with insight on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks! Hoping to make the purchase tomorrow.

I believe some tracks require tailbone protection.

NESBA does not require tailbone protection. I would check with the trackday organizer and their rules/regulations.

I'm also considering the Spidi Defender Vest.. and have heard good things about Forcefield / Tpro. Thoughts? Thanks for your input

I have a newer A*s jacket, so it has chest protector inserts. They're the only company doing this currently, so of course they are A*s chest pads. However, my back protector insert is a SASTEC. I really like it, and it's rated very high in terms of safety from everything I read and hear. It's also very comfortable. I'd like to try and get some SASTEC elbow, shoulder, and knee pads to replace the ones that came with my leathers. I wonder if their hip protectors or back protector could be cut/modified to fit my chest compartments.

I saw the review on the link from above ^. Also, the Forcefield LP was rated the best in their review. However, there is a new model now.

I wear the dainese wave back protector and dainese thorax chest protector for racing. Makes me look super swole. Plenty comfortable, havent crashed in them yet, dont really feel like it, but they definitely seem pretty sturdy.

Youre going based off of reviews for different products (and in 2008)

I'm looking at the Forcefield Harness Flite vest. Not the L2 Back protector or whatever was on that pdf for Forcefield.

I am also talking about the Knox Gilet Air vest you can find on Sportbike track gear, the one pictured on that pdf is different.

Dainese has a chest protector as well; not sure how many of their jackets have the pocket for them but my Alien jacket has a pocket to accommodate the chest protector.
