Really diggin' the edit. What did you do, exactly? After seeing yours, mine looks very dull and unsaturated (seems like all my pictures come out of my D40 looking like that as well).

I'm using Photoshop CS6. I copied the layer and set it as a High Pass filter (set to 37% Opacity). The layer was changed from "Normal" to "Hard Light". I then merged the layers. I went to Filter, down to Blur, and selected Tilt-Shift. I used this to create the artificial bokeh.

I then just used a slight lens blur to soften the image.

My D7000 for some reason seems to come out with very bold colors. I guess the biggest part for us photographers is to figure out our own cameras, then we can figure out how to post process it all. lol

I really need to find locations for shoots. I wish I could find a really industrial location where I could shoot. I can use my dad's business, but that is clear across Houston (takes over an hour to get there). BLAH.

I need to find something closer!

It's about half an hour to three of the industrial parks here. Usually fairly deserted on the weekends.

Alright I'll admit it.

I've been scared of using flash because I didn't understand it. Mainly how to expose with it.

Now I'm learning, and it's not as bad as I thought.

I use a light meter to help. Makes it super easy to set everything up.

I used a speedlight to snag this shot of my niece:

Got some unique expired film for free. Ekta- and Kodachrome tungsten, color reversal (slide), and a roll of high-speed infrared.

Looking forward to shooting it all. Got the color reversal film in my A-1 right now, gonna do tungsten next.

I used a cheap 12 led light from Walmart...just a couple swipes with a few long exposures. Merged them together, then masked out what I didn't want. The fire is from a Jet Boil camp stove, which if shaken flares up wildly.

All of these were taken by my woman, the last three from the passenger seat of my Vette. All cropped/edited by me.

I particularly like the last one, not sure why.

That last one is a shot that I love to do myself. Reminds me of magazine covers.

I was testing lighting for a headshot shoot tomorrow, my cat was my subject. Of course, his position was lower than where I had my softbox and speedlight fill aimed at. So his face is a little dark. I barely touched sharpness, contrast and highlights. This is pretty much SOOC.

"Not bad" as in actually not bad but could be vastly improved? What would make it better?

Alright, finally developed the film I shot with my Minolta 7000AF. Was just regular old Kodak Gold 400. Got a few good shots, but most were just making sure it metered correctly and didn't leak.

Standard sunset shot from a moving vehicle.

I particularly like this shot. (Obviously) a black Hearse (Morris-Meteor Cadillac Brougham) shot at night under a street lamp at the mortuary (it's okay bro, I work there), and the fluorescent light gave it a real warm, but very evil, look. Unfortunately it's a 4x6 print scan, not a negative scan. I'm still having trouble getting the Epson to scan 35mm negatives.

And now for my super secret camera. A Mamiya C33 Professional TLR with 80mm f/2.8 Sekor lens. Using it is definitely a change from from a regular SLR. Waistlevel viewfinder, and the image is reversed, so you have to fiddle with it to get it level and framed the way you want, because your brain just can't deal. Also weird shooting a 1:1 aspect, instead of a 4:3 aspect. There are a few shots I wasn't able to scan because the negative holder is pretty basic, and the negative wasn't completely flat in there. I'll see what I can do.

My woman loves this car, and it's there every cruise night. A nice completely original beige color.

He's here every cruise night as well. Hard to get any other angles because there's cars parked in every stall.

Another standard car angle. Surprised how sharp a lens from the 70s can be.

Too bad I was so awkward trying to frame up this shot. I'll figure out how I can do it better, and try to get the plane completely in the frame. :P

My bad man, sorry I didn't give more detail.

Overall it's a great shot, just a little bit motion blur and slightly out of focus...that's it if I look for any negatives.

True. Anything shot under 1/250 would blur easily in a moving vehicle.

Oh, and this was taken today for a customer. My first time doing headshots (some full shots), and she loved the final shots. Previous photographer shot her at an angle where she looked an easy 30lbs heavier. So yeah, she was stoked by the outcome of my posing her.

Thanks for the explanation. That was shot I think literally just holding the camera up over the roof and snapping a few shots. I'm still trying to get my woman to better her skills so we can shoot like this. It was mainly a fluke that we even got a usable shot lol.

I have three flash units. One is an Interfit 300w/s monolight. The other two are speedlights: Nikon SB-910 and Yongnuo YN560iii (about $75), just got the 560 this week. I have been practicing on taking 2-light setups with speedlights. I want to learn it because it is so much easier than carrying a monolight and battery pack around. I took this of my cat. The main is camera right, and the fill is left. This is with a 16* grid on the main and a snoot on the fill.

Soooooooooo.......

I have to get this off my chest: TO THE PERSON WHO CONSISTENTLY SHOOTS AT A RIGHT TILT, PLEASE FOR ALL THAT IS HOLY, STOP IT!!!!!

Noticed someone doing this. Apparently a hobbyist, but still, AAAAARARRRRRRRRRRHGGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!

It is a pure newbie thing! Okay, I can see it come into play here and there. It works well for car magazines, but honestly, that is about as far as it should go IMHO.

Okay, I feel better now.

Tobie Stevens is the photog for a number of the LD events, and he was there for Poison this past weekend. He took a bunch of shots I liked, but this one stood out for me:

Here are the pics from this past weekend: Poison Rally

Read it again, I put in exceptions for car/car magazines. Motorcycles too, now I think about it.

Heck, planes, all that stuff is okay, but a wedding? I see no point in doing it for half the shots at a wedding.

Yeah I see it now.

Just bought all my B&W developing equipment, plus a few extras. Got an old light meter, a 20' air powered cable release, and a cheapo smallish diffuser. Oh and a new seatbelt for my truck.

Once I get everything in, I'm gonna try developing my first roll

Also managed to find a "broken" Speedlite 199A for my A-1 in the local camera shop's bargain bin for $5. Cleaned the battery contacts, and now it's flawless. Great investment, and it's a fantastic flash. I mean it's no 580EX II, but it does well. In a few paychecks I'm gonna get a couple of those Chinese Speedlite copies, YN560 IIIs, and try some real lighting.

I love how the seat belt comes in last.

I have to adjust the power myself, but those YN560III's are awesome little guys. Mine has been working rather well.
