H2 R

I'm sorry. For those of you with $55,000.00 burning a hole in their pocket you missed out.

I saw a cutaway of the engine when they introduced it a couple of years ago. The turbo impeller is about two inches across, spins at tens of thousands of RPM and is located a couple of inches from the rider's wedding vegetables.

130,000 rpm, Captain Obvious.

For that money I could get a real 3-cylinder H2R in very nice condition, track ready.

I think it's one of the most bizarre looking machines I've ever seen. I could possibly buy a replica Shelby Cobra for that amount of money. Yeah baby!

I'd be happy with the street legal H2 version. My balls are steel, so I'm not worried about the turbine spinning away right next to them.

It's a good deal.

It was featured on Jay Leno's Garage and he said that even for H2(not H2R), if European company built it, it would cost $100,000

That's probably true. I have to laugh, years ago BMW came out with a bike I'd still love to have - the BMW R90-S. Gorgeous motorcycle! The featured bike was candy apple red with a neat little bikini faring and a real show stopper for the day. It was reviewed by now defunct "Cycle Magazine". The review was titled "Is The World Ready For The Over $3,000.00 Motorcycle?" This was, I think, in 1973.

My, how things have changed. Now it's over $3,000.00 for a stinkin' 250.

Not much has really changed Bill, it's just that inflation shrunk the dollar, of course. According to the Bureau of Labor's site, $3,000 in 1973 is equivalent to $17,250 today. That's pretty much on par for a current version of a motorcycle like that. We earn an equivalent amount more dollars than people did in '73 as well, but probably not more buying power.

Thanks to the Chinese we have a-lot of buying power and we're gonna be bad off when that little party is over. I just bought a wrist watch on eBay for $12.95 with free shipping. OK, it won't be a Rolex but who cares. Maybe when the battery dies I'll just throw it away.

Your reflection on the effects of inflation are right on the money (no pun intended).
