8-21-2017 Eclipse / Tail of the Dragon

I'll be headed to The Dragon to see the eclipse this year! Lots of stuff going on for me, it will also be my 40th birthday... I'm an old man! YAY!

So the eclipse is on Monday Aug 21st, however I will be celebrating the weekend on the Dragon (and surrounding area) with Skeeter the Duck and her new little brother Boomer. I will of course be on the Ninja 250 and maybe even bring the SV650, too.

There have been 250 rallies at the Dragon in the past, but not for a while from what I understand. Perhaps this can be the beginning of a yearly event? Hmmmm... I can't promise an eclipse next year, though. LoL!

I'll be staying at the Dragon Pitt Inn, and last I talked to them they still had rooms available: http://www.dragonpittinnandbbq.com

If you can't get in there, there are plenty of other places very nearby that can accommodate. I'm sure that Dennis and Jane, the owners of the Pitt, will very kindly steer you in the right direction if they should be booked up.

If you can't find me just ask ANYONE where they've seen the guy with duck, we're hard to miss!

Hope to see ya there!

Have fun and enjoy the eclipse!

I've had my 250 to two Deals Gap meets, but they were the annual 2-stroke meets in May. I could see a Ninja 250 meet being successful, but I wouldn't go unless the major part of it were weekdays. The 2-stroke meet goes from Sunday to Sunday, and the only days I find worth being there are Sunday evening through Friday morning. By midday Friday the whole area is jammed with groups of Harleys that effectively block the roads for any sporty riding.

I hit the 2 stroke rally by accident some 10 years ago. I was just passing through in the 350Z and found that the Dragon was closed due to landslide. Before smartphones were popular I had to borrow a map to find a way around and realized everyone around me was on a 2-stroke bike. I met a TON of really cool guys on some of the best rides! Love me some 2-stroke! Someday I'll get my CR500 street racer finished and join them.

It's a 2-stroke meet, but if you're a 2-stroker at heart, no one will mind if you show up on a 4-stroke. Some of the regulars there occasionally come without a 2-stroke because it's down for maintenance, etc.. The 2018 meet is April 29 through May 6.

How long have you been riding with that duck?? It doesn't try to fly out when going around corners?? I'd love to ride with my dog (in a sidecar), but I know him and I know he'd try to jump at the first lean so I'd have to clip him in from multiple directions...

I'm heading to Hastings NE. this weekend for a trackday, and going back for the eclipse on the 21st. At my age this will probably be my last chance to see a total solar eclipse without a lot of traveling. I think the next one is in southern TX. in '27 and OK. in '47 after that.

I'd love to join you.

But some dumbass at work scheduled my whole reason for existence to start on the 21st.
